Position Overview

The System Engineer Intern will gain industrial experience of good engineering design, development, and industrial standard (ISO, CFR, GAMP, GMP, GDP) by getting familiar with the design and operation of the complex, integrated automated systems in clinical laboratory environment. This position is intended to be a full-time opportunity for an undergraduate to obtain hands-on experience in the system engineer field while contributing to automation development, optimization, and document generation with the Process Development & Automation team in Redwood City, CA.

This position is an onsite 5 days/wk internship in Redwood City, CA during Summer 2025.

Essential Duties

With support from the senior engineers, investigate any potential failure points, determine robustness of system components, and optimize process workflow.Highlight and analyze any design observations to the engineering team; make recommendations and brainstorm improvements.Generate, review, and/or optimize operation procedures and other instrument related documents.Assist with performing hardware repairs and/or software debugging on laboratory equipment.Assist with filing and organizing activities.Perform all engineering or service activities in compliance with all relevant safety and regulatory bodies (e.g. OSHA, CLIA, etc).Assist with other support duties as assigned.

Essential Skills:

Must have a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.Ability to use troubleshooting skills to help identify and diagnose automation failure.Must be highly organized and able to produce high quality work as a part of a team.Excellent organization and communication skills both written and verbal.Uphold company mission and values through accountability, innovation, integrity, quality, and teamwork.Support and comply with the company’s Quality Management System policies and procedures.Ability to work designated schedule (full-time, on-site for 12 consecutive weeks around June-Sept).Physical requirements:Ability to lift up to 20 pounds for approximately 1% of a typical working day.Ability to work seated for approximately 50% of a typical working day. Ability to work standing for approximately 50% of a typical working day.Ability to work on a mobile device, tablet, or in front of a computer screen and/or perform typing for approximately 50% of a typical working day.Ability to comply with any applicable personal protective equipment requirements.

Minimum Qualifications

Enrollment towards bachelor’s degree in bioengineering, biomedical engineering, chemical engineering, computer science, software engineering or a closely related discipline with at least two years of college-level coursework.Basic computer skills include Internet navigation, Email usage, and Microsoft Office.Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.Demonstrated ability to perform the Essential Duties of the position with or without accommodation.

Preferred Qualifications

Record of outstanding academic achievement.Programming skills are desired.#LI-JB1

Salary Range:

$39,000.00 - $62,000.00

 

The annual base salary shown is for this position located in US - CA - Redwood City on a full-time basis.
