Cabot has an exciting opportunity for a Process Engineer to join the technical process engineering team at our carbon black facility in Ville Platte, LA. This role is responsible for the initiation of activities, procedures, and projects that improve product quality, optimize production capacity, ensure equipment reliability, provide capital improvements, integrate new technology and practices, and optimize overall performance.
This is the ideal role for individuals who enjoy a diverse range of responsibilities while managing an assigned carbon black unit. Your daily responsibilities could include process safety, involvement in R&D scale-ups, production quality enhancements, equipment maintenance as well as capital projects to improve plant processes.

The Process Engineer will work on-site at the Ville Platte, LA plant.
How You Will Make an ImpactIn this role, your primary duty is to improve plant performance by recommending and implementing improvements to product yield and quality. You’ll do this by analyzing data and using statistical techniques to improve process capabilities across the plant. You will also identify systematic causes of problems and implement solutions via response flows, Standard Operating Procedure development, and improving robust process control strategies. Additionally, you’ll develop basic scopes and data for engineered projects, including modification/development of P&IDs and PFDs. This role requires a safety mind-set, self-motivated person with a positive attitude, a ton of good energy, effective time management, organization, and recordkeeping skills. A successful candidate will be someone who can:
Identify/Develop process improvements to lower off quality (OQ), drive cost down, and increase productivity.Assist Production to identify systematic causes of out-of-control key parameters. Assist quality engineers in determining Statistical Process Control (SPC) limits and control rules.Lead excursion teams using standard problem-solving approach.Support new product development. Develop and implement equipment, procedure, and process changes including design and implementation of improvement projects.Own assigned customer complaints: determine system of causes, develop corrective action plan, and work with technical service to ensure customer validation/closure occurs.Actively involved in Process Safety Management. Ensure all process changes are implemented according to Management of Change protocol, participate in Hazard Operability Studies, and apply all other elements of PSM into the daily job function.Provide support to the Capital projects group. Develop and implement plant related Capital projects. What You Will Bring to Cabot Bachelor/University degree in Chemical Engineering or Mechanical EngineeringSelf-starter and driven to identify issues and resolutionsCarbon black manufacturing experience preferredTechnical Excellence. Basic knowledge of chemistry and chemical manufacturing. Understanding of Statistical Process Control (SPC) tools and principals. Experience with Analytical problem-solving methodologies (e.g., root cause analysis, failure mode analysis) as well as Quality Management principles. Experience in small project management, planning, and task identificationCommunication & Presentation Skills. Ability to effectively engage in verbal and written communications that are timely, concise, clear, and relevant while delivering with empathy with a broad range of stakeholderExcellent skills with Microsoft Word, Excel, and OutlookGuide Results. Generates data, conducts analysis, and organizes and interprets data to establish and support equipmentWorks Safely. Strictly follows and complies with all SH&E procedures, standards, and regulations. Constantly strives for Excellence in the fields of sustainability and Safety, Health, and preservation of the Environment. Familiar with topics such as Process Safety Management (PSM), safe work permitting, lockout/tagout, emergency response, and hazard recognition
