Position Overview:

The Process Engineer (PE) will be a Site Equipment Area Owner (SEAO) that utilizes engineering and continuous improvement principles to drive standardization of like equipment throughout the manufacturing floor. This role is intended to lead efforts that identify and drive out chronic losses across the designated equipment centers across the site. The PE will lead the effort to establish and improve proven standard work and systems for the designated equipment centers. They will role model the use of the Kaizen methodology to drive improvements and implement Daily Management Systems (DMS) to sustain daily results with their equipment owners. They will role model the use of TPM methodologies, focused on autonomous maintenance, preventive maintenance, focused improvement, and training and development. These individuals will support capital and change management project definition efforts. This role will heavily rely on engineering methodologies and principles to drive the improvement of the equipment reliability across the floor. This includes data analysis from large sets of data to identify trends and patterns with respect to overall equipment losses, the ability to read, interpret, and create technical equipment documentation, and project management skills to pull together cross-collaborative teams to drive ideas and strategies through implementation across the floor.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Lead the standardization of an equipment center(s) throughout the manufacturing facility (i.e. fillers, mills, case packers, palletizers, etc.) via the development of the establishment of standard work (I.e. Job-Aid’s, Centerlines, CIL’s, Preventative Maintenance, etc.) Analyze data and prioritize overall site equipment losses using TPM tools (PR, unplanned stops, breakdowns, yield loss, SOC’s, M&R spending, etc) Lead and continuous improvement (kaizen) events with cross-functional teams to drive gains in equipment reliability (expectation = 1 kaizen per month across focused equipment centers) Drive site reapplication of success, standards, and equipment best practices across all like equipment Participate as coach and auditor for AM team development Build technical expertise/leadership across the site by developing equipment skill assessments and associated training material Lead failure analysis to root cause for select breakdowns by partnering with maintenance and engineering Standardize procedures and planned work orders schedules for priority maintenance tasks by partnering with maintenance Build and improve on current AM systems and standards (CILs, Centerlines, TSGs, etc.) Build long term capability into equipment owners by developing SMEs on the floor Stay linked to initiatives and major capital projects. Provide support as requested for standard development and training. Lead implementation of improvement projects. Work with in house experts and vendors. Secure funding as needed by partnering with change management and engineering Partner with Team Managers and crew leaders to ensure standards are maintained as expected via rigorous execution of standards, and correcting deviations with urgency. Ensure Standards (“Standard” = CL, CIL, Changeover Checklists, Visual Controls, JSA’s, etc.) are defined/updated, verified, documented, and deployed across lines and people who need it Ensure document management systems reflect current best in class standards and knowledge Proactively look across lines for common chronic loss issues and special cause disruptions Partner with Operations to resolve urgent, sporadic and chronic problems/needs @ Root Cause Determine if “Standard” was adequate and executed correctly; if not, why not Lock in Systemic solutions by updating Standards, ensuring reapplication to applicable equipment centers & systems Reapply before inventing, maintaining effective communications with line teams Ability to work overtime/weekends as required; flexibility with shift hours when required. 

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering preferred (Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical and Industrial) Proficiency in the application of statistical methods Proficient in MS Office Suite (Excel, Access, Project, PowerPoint, Word) Effective communication (both oral and written) skills with demonstrated ability to present ideas without formal authority Ability to exercise good judgment in high pressure, sensitive situations. Ability and willingness to work flexible hours and days as needed to meet business demands Experience working collaboratively in a team-based environment Excellent problem solving skills.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

A minimum of one year of relevant production/engineering experience.  Relevant co-op/internship experience will be considered. Demonstrated leadership capability, ability to influence others and professional maturity. SAP, Adobe Acrobrat Writer experience & working knowledge of PLC, CAD system and Shop Floor integration Knowledge and experience with plant operations, packaging, and processing equipment. Experience developing and writing procedures with cross functional teams. Ability to proactively lead and coach teams to solve problems, multi-task, deliver continuous improvement initiatives, establish sound operating procedures, automatic downtime monitoring and other improvement systems.

Base Salary: $62,090 - $108,600

 

Base salary compensation will be determined based on factors such as geographic location, skills, education, experience for this role, and/or internal equity of our current employees as part of any final offer. This position is also eligible to participate in McCormick’s Incentive Bonus (MIB) Plan.
