The Process Engineer initiates manufacturing process-related ideas, concepts, or procedures to ensure conformity to customer specifications and production capabilities. Develops process technology to improve existing capability, with consideration toward cost, efficiency, schedules, and availability of raw materials. Coordinates capital equipment improvements.     

Essential Duties:

Responsible for developing manufacturing technology and improving manufacturing processes as they apply to the production of wire and cable products. Accomplish engineering tasks that require technical data gathering and analysis, problem identification and resolutions, process evaluation, cost analysis and reduction, as well as capital project justification and implementation.Initiates ideas, suggestions, and recommendations within the area of assigned projects. Assists in controlling manufacturing processes by recommending the most efficient use of equipment, materials, and workforce. Diagnosis of manufacturing problems as they relate to machinery, materials, and processes; identifies and implements appropriate corrective actions.Directly involved in scrap reduction, primarily as it relates to the use of materials. Assists in developing improved methods of manufacturing to reduce scrap, limit excessive usage of raw materials; and developing efficient and economical means of salvaging scrap.Assists in special projects dealing with cost reduction studies, equipment utilization and downtime reduction, auditing quality control procedures, instructing manufacturing supervision in new processes and procedures, training of operators in new manufacturing techniques, and general “troubleshooting” of manufacturing processes. Maintains contact with vendors to keep abreast of new processes and latest manufacturing methods and technologies.Resolve issues in a manner consistent with company mission, values, and objectives.Coordinates capital equipment improvements as they apply to processes on the shop floor. Conducts investigations to recommend, justify and implement capital projects for process improvements, cost reductions, etc.Provides liaison between the manufacturing organization, Research and Development and Application Engineering to coordinate cost reductions, new process implementations and new product introductions.Acts to implement and support all programs related to operational improvements on the shop floor. Includes, but not limited to, activities pertaining to:

 Product quality improvements

                 Efficiency and productivity improvements

                 Process improvements and process cost reductions

                 Control of material usage and scrap reduction

                 Accurate shop floor labor and production reporting

                 Equipment utilization and downtime reduction

                 New capital equipment justification and implementations

These are the general duties required to fulfill the Process Engineer job description, not a detailed description of all the work required. New duties and responsibilities may be required to meet the changing demands of the business.

Education and Experience Preferred:

At least 5 years’ experience in Manufacturing Engineering, Production or related activity in the wire and cable industry preferred.Four-year Engineering or Manufacturing Technology degree, or two-year Associate degree in Manufacturing Technology, Engineering, or related technical field, coupled with relevant work experience.

Knowledge and Skills Preferred:

Ability to effectively communicate with all organization levels, both orally and written.Lean Six Sigma, 5S background is preferredStrong aptitude for combining technical and management disciplines. Leadership potential essential to success.Disciplined and data-driven approach to problem solving. Experience with Lean Tools preferred.Proficient in Microsoft OfficeProficient in AutoCAD.

Working Conditions and/or Physical Requirements:

Ability to work long hours in a sedentary position sitting, talking, looking at a computer, charts/graphs and performing repetitive motions.Ability to move objects and materials of at least 25lbs.Ability to collaborate with manufacturing team members as needed in an environment that can be noisy.Ability to follow safety guidelines and wear required PPE when onsite.
