Summary
This position is responsible for developing and preparing accurate and detailed shop routing packages within a specific timeframe to meet customer commitments and align with the current scheduled shop load. The Process Engineer will work closely with sales, quality, production, and engineering teams to ensure efficient workflow, material selection, and compliance with industry standards.
Responsibilities
+ Review and interpret customer ordering data, including sales orders, Manufacturing Inspection Test Plans (MITP), and quality checklists, to determine production requirements.
+ Analyze and understand standard drawings, blueprints, and technical schematics related to manufacturing and fabrication processes.
+ Interpret and apply standard specification requirements such as ASTM, ASME, MSS, and other industry-specific guidelines to ensure compliance.
+ Maintain a strong knowledge of product descriptions, including material alloys, end preparations, and standard industry specifications.
+ Understand and apply standard testing requirements, including both Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) (e.g., ultrasonic, magnetic particle, radiographic) and Destructive Testing (DT) (e.g., tensile, impact, hardness).
+ Create and modify shop drawings using SolidWorks in accordance with customer requirements, technical specifications, and internal standards.
+ Demonstrate knowledge of welding procedures, and material joining techniques to ensure proper documentation and routing.
+ Select and reserve raw materials from inventory for production purposes, ensuring material compliance with purchase orders and specification requirements.
+ Analyze raw material properties, dimensions, and certifications to confirm conformance with project needs.
+ Develop and prepare comprehensive routing packages, including manufacturing process routings, shop drawings, quality checklists, and additional supporting documentation.
+ Review, verify, and validate shop routings produced by other process engineers to maintain accuracy and consistency in production documentation.
+ Modify and optimize selected master routings to provide clear, step-by-step manufacturing instructions for production teams.
+ Utilize ProNest or other nesting software to optimize material usage and reduce waste in manufacturing processes.
+ Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including production supervisors, machinists, welders, and quality inspectors, to ensure seamless execution of routing packages.
+ Identify opportunities for process improvements, cost reductions, and efficiency enhancements in manufacturing workflows.
+ Maintain accurate records and documentation in compliance with company policies and industry standards.
Qualifications
+ Must be a U.S. citizen.
+ Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint).
+ Ability to read, interpret, and create engineering drawings and technical documents.
+ Knowledge of machining, fabrication, and metal processing techniques.
+ Proficiency in SolidWorks or other CAD software for technical drawing and modeling.
+ Understanding of welding processes, weld symbols, and welding procedure specifications (WPS).
+ Experience with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems and manufacturing software is a plus.
+ Strong mathematical skills, including the ability to calculate tolerances, material dimensions, and process parameters.
+ Effective verbal and written communication skills in English (Spanish proficiency is a plus).
+ Strong attention to detail and analytical thinking to ensure quality and accuracy in documentation.
+ Ability to multitask, prioritize tasks, and work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Education and/or Experience
+ at least 1 year of relevant work experience in process engineering, manufacturing, or a related field.
+ Preferred: Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related discipline.
+ Prior experience in a metal fabrication, machining, or manufacturing environment is a plus.
