Process Engineer
Job Title: Aerospace Process Engineer - Winsted, CT Job Description The Process Engineer is responsible for the development and implementation of products into the manufacturing operation to meet production requirements and quoted costs. This includes process/method definition, development, and ownership with a major emphasis on operations support. Responsibilities + Troubleshoot operations including fixturing/clamping issues, program and/or parameter issues, and expendable tooling issues until problems are resolved. + Design fixturing using the fixture maintenance program or other mistake-proofing methods to increase yields on high scrap operations/programs and support scrap reduction initiatives. + Time study jobs to balance and define operator standard work. Generate standard work charts and process capacity tables and compare actual performance to quoted estimates in current cost models. + Utilize SPC charts and other process capability methods to increase first-time yields to within quoted standards. + Perform process planning and development of newly awarded products (NPI), including tooling procurement, standard routings, bill of materials, etc. + Use data analysis tools (Power BI) to identify gaps in shop floor performance to standard and make appropriate method improvements to bridge/close gaps, including scrap and rework costs. + Use APQP tools to identify and reduce risks of scrap and escapes. + Assist in cost estimating efforts for repeat production jobs as well as for all new product introduction (NPI) requests. + Implement and participate in cost-saving initiatives. + Act as a technical liaison with customers, suppliers, and other plants regarding processes, purchase orders, specifications, and customer drawings as issues arise. + Conduct research, analysis, and cost justification of equipment procurement. + Actively participate in continuous improvement events and initiatives. + Provide technical support to shop floor personnel. Essential Skills + Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from an accredited institution. + Minimum of 5+ years of engineering or operations experience in a manufacturing environment. + Proficient in Microsoft Office software and CAD/CAM programs. + Working knowledge of statistical processing analysis tools. + Training and experience with Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma tools. Additional Skills & Qualifications + Experience in machining, aerospace, or industrial gas turbines operations. + Aerospace specification knowledge. + Ability to solve problems and identify root cause and corrective actions. + Experience with EDM machines, coating machines, welding engineering, and heat treatment. + Continuous improvement and fixture design experience. Work Environment The Winsted location specializes in precision machining and castings, with 120 CNC machines, 40% of which are 5-axis. The engineering department currently consists of 11 people, with plans to add 3 more engineers this year. The dress code is professional/casual with jeans and a professional shirt, along with steel-toe shoes. The office hours are from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM with a half-hour lunch, and there are some flexible start and stop times. There is a pool table available for use during lunch breaks. The location is in the quiet northwest corner of the state, with ample restaurants and shopping available within 5-10 minutes. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $80000.00 - $125000.00/yr.
