Job Summary
Provides micro support in a high-volume, process-control laboratory, for a large fermentation facility. The lab micro process improvement lead will monitor the day-to-day operation of the microbiology area of the lab, troubleshoot fermentation problems in the lab, consult with engineers, research personnel and lab personnel, as well as lead microbiology technician coaching, training, and professional development.
Essential Job FunctionsAdheres and guides Safety, Environmental, Quality, and HR programsReview and follow up on microbiology data to ensure product quality and food safetyCommunicate interdepartmentally regarding lab activities, lab services, analytical data, product quality, and food safetyMonitor technician performance and provides coaching and trainingMonitor microbiology status of lab and plant, reports status, then takes appropriate action to escalate product quality and food safety problems and trendsOversee personnel and operation logistics for the microbiology lab areaEnsure uninterrupted daily operation of microbiology labWork to continuously improve microbiology performance and practices at BioProductsEvaluate and develop current technology for improving lab quality, productivity, product quality, and food safetyOversee the validation, monitoring, and troubleshooting of micro equipmentWrite and review lab test protocols, as necessaryMaintains micro lab quality metricsReport product quality or food safety issues to QC and QAUnderstands their role in food safety and quality systems, actively participates in food safety efforts and ensures all activities conform to good manufacturing practices.Education / ExperienceLab Technician III in BioProducts Lab is preferredBachelor’s degree in a science related field is preferredExperience in drafting standard operating proceduresExtensive lab experience, specifically micro lab experienceProficiency in Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office SuiteWorking ConditionsRespiratory Hazards:DustHot/Cold Temperature Extremes:Potential hot/cold temperature extremes in plant environmentChemicalsHazardous chemicals presentLightingIndoorPhysical RequirementsMoves and transports fifty poundsAscends and descends stepladdersMoves to and from lab workstationsPositions self to reach items and instruments on lab benchesDiagnoses mechanical problems with lab instrumentsOperates lab instrumentsInstalls and removes lab instrumentsInputs lab dataDrafts reportsCollects documentationCommunicates and exchanges information with technicians and employees of other departmentsInspects lab instruments and inventoryMoves to and from Fermentation DepartmentOpens, prepares, and analyzes samplesLifts and carries samples, instruments, steel transfer vessels, boxes, suppliesNavigates an industrial environment, which may include climbing stairs, walking on grating and traversing heightsDons and doffs personal protective equipment, including safety glasses, hard hat, safety boots and uniformExcited about this role but don’t meet every requirement listed?
