Spherion Mid Ohio, in partnership with The JM Smucker Company, is seeking a Process Lab Technician for their Orrville pet food R&D Process Lab team. This position will begin as a 6 month contract role with likely extension for up to 24 months. This position offers an excellent opportunity to gain experience working in a Fortune 500 company.

Position Overview: ... As a Lab Technician your main duties will involve hands-on tasks like batching and weighing materials. You'll also be a key part of maintaining sanitation standards in the R&D Process Lab. This role centers on following established procedures and working closely with your team to ensure smooth day-to-day operations.

Key Responsibilities:

Assist with pet food production runs in the context of product research and development Complete batching tasks for production runs in line with existing procedures Complete sanitation tasks based on the production schedule that aligns with Standard Sanitization Procedures Operate Process Lab equipment while following standard operating procedures and relevant test methods Ensuring proper lab setup, ingredient preparation, equipment operation, and clean-up for each trial run Operate a variety of food processing, packaging, and testing equipment according to safety guidelines and requirements to execute experiments Document and report data for review and interpretation, including process conditions, ingredient codes, inventory levels, and other relevant information as needed Recognize and troubleshoot typical problems within the work area Clean and sanitize lab equipment and machinery Prepare pet food samples for analysis Organize equipment and tools to support production runs Prep and gather ingredients for upcoming trials Assemble equipment and machinery per trial specifications

 

Requirements:

High School Diploma is required Experience in a food processing area with a working knowledge of food safety regulations is preferred Mechanical aptitude, comfortable assembling and working with machinery and lab equipment Able to work within established procedures with a moderate degree of supervision Capable of performing a range of day-to-day activities such as operating food production equipment Lifting up to 50 lbs. Use standard food cleaning chemicals to complete SSOP tasks Ability to impact team through the quality of services or information provided; effective collaboration with team members to achieve goals and add value Collaboration, information sharing, and proactive engagement with others to meet team goals Compliance with all safety, health, environmental requirements, including OSHA rules, company GMP/GLP, and other Food Safety/QA requirements Accurate measurement and transfer of ingredients for experiments and conversion of ingredients to finished goods per instructions Comfortable working on a computer: data entry, documentation, entering quality check information Willingness to do physical work, work around machinery, and operate in a food production environment Ability to work independently and identify upcoming tasks Time management skills Machine operation or manufacturing experience is preferred, but not required

 

Pay Rate:
$19/hr. (approximately $39,520 annually)

Schedule and Location:
This position is full-time (40 hours/week). Working hours are Monday - Friday, 7am-3pm.
The Technician will work 100% on-site at the Smucker Company campus in Orrville, Ohio.
