This is a full-time, exempt position.
Position Summary:
As a Process Safety Engineer at the Decatur Corn Plant, you'll be at the forefront of leading change. Your role will be to own the implementation of engineering solutions to support actions identified within the Total Process Safety (TPS) program, to meet corporate and local compliance standards. You’ll be a contributing member of the engineering team, working directly with the production and safety departments to improve the safety of the site. You'll leverage your technical expertise and exceptional team-building capabilities to engage our diverse workforce, ranging from frontline to leadership in advancing our TPS program.
Job Responsibilities:Lead the implementation of engineering process safety initiatives identified by the TPS program for the facility.Assist in coordinating process safety activities at the facility with the Process Safety SME.Be a contributing member to the facility’s TPS Committee as a representative of the engineering department.Establish a safety culture across the facility based on reviewing and meeting goals, continuous risk reduction and prevention of process safety incidents.Assist the TPS Committee in monitoring, evaluating and reporting process safety performance at the facility and work with leadership on developing and implementing improvements, working collaboratively with the TPS Technology Team on TPS programs and goals.Working with the site TPS Committee, lead or participate in local Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs) and related action plans.Support the site Process Safety SME as an additional reviewer on Management of Change (MOC) requests for the facility.Support the Engineering Team as a TPS Representative on Improvement projects and Capital Investment projects.Provide TPS training to engineers at the facility. Participate in PSM and TPS Audits; conduct or lead self-assessments for the facility.Minimum Job Requirements:Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Chemical, Mechanical, and Agricultural Engineering)2+ years of process safety experience preferably in a chemical manufacturing or agricultural processing facilityA basis of understanding of applicable national codes (OSHA, ANSI, IEEE, etc)Robust experience in applying the 14 elements of PSMStrong problem solving, diagnostic and analytical skills, with a results focused approachStrong leadership, change management and project/program management skillsExcellent communication and interpersonal skills, acts as a reliable pro-active communicatorA drive for success, a continuous improvement approach, a consistently positive attitude and outlookPhysical Demands:Employee will work in a plant environment and is expected to initiate work based on general instructions from management.The physical requirements of the job requires ability to climb stairs, lift 50 pounds, prolonged periods of standing and sitting, computer work, working in confined spaces and from heights, bending, kneeling, working adjusted hours, and working as instructed.Prompt attendance is a must.Employees working at the Decatur Corn Plant are [or may be] exposed to various potential chemical and food allergens due to the nature of our business and the requirements of the job.
