MercyOne North Iowa is a clinical training site for approximately 500 students from 127 different colleges enrolled in programs for medical laboratory, nursing, paramedic, rehabilitation, medical assistants, pastoral services, physicians and many other medical fields.

Join the MercyOne Family! We are looking to hire a Processor/Phlebotomist.
As a Processor/Phlebotomist at MercyOne, you will complete send-out process for specimens referred to outside reference laboratories, retrieves specimens from storage for add-on testing or other needs, and aliquots specimens for in-house and send-out tests. Cross-trained to cover areas of client services and phlebotomy. Processes specimens as received in the laboratory for cytologic study according to written procedures.
Ensures accurate and timely entry of patient test information into LIS and the identification of all slides to be processed.
Assists during the collection of fine needle aspirations and other collection procedures as is deemed necessary to assure that the specimens are processed correctly.
Opens and labels cytology specimens ensuring accurate identification of specimens.
Stains and coverslips the cytology slides. Maintains proper concentration of alcohols and stains in the stainer.
Schedule:
Part Time; 20 Hours/Week; Evenings
General Requirements:
Education:
High School education is required
Graduate of a Medical Assistant Program or Higher degree, ie AA, BS, BA in the medical field is preferred.
Experience
Previous phlebotomy, or processing experience is preferred.
Special Skills, Competencies, and Aptitudes
Ability to prioritize multiple orders in a rapid and accurate manner in order to provide timely service to all patients. Must have Excellent Customer Service skills. Ability to make sound, independent decisions. Must have the ability to communicate effectively with other hospital personnel and patients. Must be able to work independently and follow through on assignments with minimal direction. Understands that errors may have serious consequences for patients. Must be able to ride in elevator and push/pull phlebotomy cart. Must provide proof of Basic Life Support (BLS Healthcare Provider, American Heart Association; or American Red Cross, Professional Rescuer-LIVE class only) via current card prior to employment or within 30 days of hire and maintains current status. Completes Mandatory Reporting requirement within 6 months of hire and renews this requirement every 5 years.
