About the role: 

Purpose:
To develop North America Procurement strategies for Raw Materials and leading the work with Diageo suppliers, establish / maintain performance targets.

 
Role Responsibilities:
Management Responsibility:

This role has responsibility for developing agreed category strategy for Raw Material categories in North AmericaLead the development of appropriate relationships with key partnersEngage and gain support from key partners in developing and then implementing category strategyCategory strategy development and implementation involves working with multiple internal partner groups to understand the business needs, staying current on category / industry changes globally, and handling financial as well as supply oriented risks.Responsible for making sure that supplier management processes are in place for all key suppliersResponsible for driving increased value from supplier relationships within category (which may vary from open market commodity purchases to long-term single sourced relationships)Secure raw materials necessary to support Diageo North America operationsHandle commodities and the coordination of trades through the Chicago Board of Trade and ensuring compliance to Hedge Accounting Regulations / CARMIdentify and Implement Cost Savings InitiativesResponsible for supplier selection and contract negotiationsWork closely with Global counterparts and lead the creation of sourcing strategies for the respective regionsPrioritize and deploy resources against the highest value opportunities, both new value and value protection/enhancement.Strong ability to prioritize and focus on delivering business goals.Driving greater innovation through key partners/ influencing partner investment and direction

 
Complexity of Role:

Requires working across multiple locations in North America and working with global colleagues and partners.Requires an understanding of multiple cultures and global market dynamics, with the ability to distill insights from this information that are applicable at a local levelManagement of special key projects crossing multiple categories and / or functions.

 
Key Outputs:

Develop, agree, and deliver cross functional category strategyLead and achieve / exceed the performance targets agreed within strategyEstablish and maintain correct governance processes and category forumsEnsure effective supplier long term relationships exist that create sustainable value for both parties and meet all Diageo standards

Experience / skills required:

 Experience:

Four year bachelors degree or equivalent and significant procurement experience, preferably in a consumer products or agriculture/commodity environment. Track record of consistent performance and delivery (what & how of performance)Functional understanding of the category management process with experience of deployment in at least one categoryExperience sourcing bulk liquids, flavors, ingredients or sweetenersDemonstrated experience in sourcing and successful negotiation.Strong analytical skills with experience in financial or cost modelling with a proven ability to identify trends and make decisionsProven ability to build effective Supplier relationshipsExposure to global sourcing, including experience in Latin America and commodity markets.English and Spanish bilingual language skills a plusAbility to operate and successfully managing variety of senior partners across a global, complex matrix structure
