  Overview

The Procurement Special Projects Manager will be responsible for managing key procurement initiatives to optimize inventory, streamline processes, and enhance cross-functional collaboration. This role includes oversight of aging inventory, root cause analysis of overbuys and shorts, and managing product and packaging transitions. Additionally, the manager will support national purchasing for the plant teams and contribute to cross-docking and central portioning initiatives. This position requires a strong ability to manage multiple projects, analyze data, and drive operational efficiency in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

Inventory Management and Depletion Planning:

Monitor, analyze, and address aging inventory, creating and executing action plans to reduce excess stock.Collaborate with plant teams to ensure optimal inventory levels and prevent imbalances.Lead the management of product and packaging transitions, ensuring smooth depletion of existing inventory and successful introduction of new items.Coordinate with suppliers, logistics, and internal teams to align on timelines and mitigate transition risks.

National Purchasing for Cross-Docking and Central Portioning Support:

Oversee procurement activities for four plant teams, ensuring timely and cost-effective purchasing of food and packaging materials.Support plant-specific needs while maintaining consistency and efficiencies across the national supply chain.Assist in the execution and optimization of cross-docking and central portioning initiatives, streamlining processes to reduce lead times and enhance efficiency.Collaborate with supply chain and logistics teams to drive improvements and cost savings.

Root Cause Analysis and Corrective Action:

Conduct in-depth analysis to identify root causes of overbuy or shorts situations, examining procurement, forecasting, and supply chain processes.Develop and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence and enhance purchasing accuracy.

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

Act as the main liaison between procurement and cross-functional partners including operations, supply chain, logistics, finance, and marketing.Streamline workflows and improve communication to drive project success and procurement efficiency.

Continuous Improvement & Reporting:

Lead initiatives to optimize procurement processes, improve forecasting accuracy, and reduce waste, with a focus on national plant operations.Provide regular reports and updates on inventory levels, project status, procurement metrics, and overall supply chain performance.

General Responsibilities:

Follow the facility GMPs and help enforce them throughout the facilitySupport the efforts of the company to maintain our food safety system (SQF) and quality programs

 

This position requires 25% travel, as needed, to strengthen relationships with inventory and procurement teams at the plant facilities. 

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree requiredMinimum of 5 years experience in a buying role, preferably in the food industryExcellent trainer with a proven track record of mentoring and training team membersMust be a team player, possess outstanding customer focused attitude, and be self-motivatedExperience with an ERP system preferredAbility to problem solve and balance priorities in a fast paced environment

 

Salary Range: $95,000 - $105,000 + Bonus Opportunity
