Legrand has an exciting opportunity for a Product Design Engineer II to join the Data Center Power & Control Division Starline Team in Canonsburg, PA. The Product Design Engineer II role contributes to the conception, design, development, and verification of new products.
What Will You Do?
Create innovative, customizable power distribution busway systems and components. Use a systematic, analytically-based approach to concepting, designing, and testing.Design and develop mechanical systems utilizing many manufacturing methods such as thermoplastic extruding, plastic injection molding, thermoset molding, metal forming, metal casting, and metal extruding.Utilize 2D and 3D CAD systems to perform detailed design analysis, including structural, thermal, and finite element analysis methods.Provide mechanical materials and tooling cost studies. Work with appropriate vendors to develop the cost-effective realization of the design.Compile requirements, functional specifications, design verification plans, and functional test procedures.Participate in mechanical design reviews with other engineering, manufacturing, and marketing personnel.Work with Marketing, Manufacturing, Quality, and other Engineering personnel during product conceptualization through product launch.Assist in directing the testing required, verifying product performance, system integration, and compliance with applicable standards.Schedule, track, and maintain the mechanical portion of assigned project schedules.Partner with Production, Quality, and Purchasing to ensure product manufacturability.Build strong, positive relationships with other designers.Perform additional duties as deemed necessary to support the organization's overall goals. QualificationsRequired Skills
Education:
BS Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology or equivalent years of experience.A minimum of 2 years of experience designing systems or components for mid-volume manufacturing.Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:
Experience with integrated system design, including mechanical simulation, 3D modeling, DFM, material selection, and manufacturing processes.Exceptional organizational, time management, communications, presentation, and interpersonal skills. Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.Must be highly collaborative to ensure timely completion of projects.High level of self-initiative and dependability.Ability to travel domestically and internationally as required up to 10%.Proficiency with Microsoft office tools.Knowledge of project management processes and principles.Personal Qualities/Behaviors:
The performance of this position may occasionally require exposure to the manufacturing areas where, under certain areas, the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses and mandatory hearing protection are required.
