Job Scope
The Product Development Engineer leads the development of products from concept to commercialization, involving research, planning, idea generation, concept development, specification creation, design maintenance, testing, and effective communication with team members and stakeholders.
Duties/Responsibilities
Develops CAD models, drawings, and applies GD&T for implants and instruments, ensuring designs meet user needs and are manufacturable.Leads engineering deliverables for small or partial projects through standard work processes, from concept to launch.Communicates technical content across internal teams and external groups, able to present to medium-sized audiences.Manages design control and risk management, including Design Verification, Validation, and Reviews for smaller projects.Evaluates designs via testing and analysis (FEA, RCA, tolerance analysis, statistical tools).Conducts CAD model reviews, develops Best Known Methods (BKMs), and establishes quality checks.Leads change management in PLM systems (e.g., Windchill, SAP).Investigates IP landscapes and generates intellectual property.Researches technical specialties as assigned and applies anatomical knowledge for projects.Supports customer-facing events as needed.Qualifications
Bachelor’s in Mechanical or Bio-Mechanical Engineering or equivalent, with 2+ years’ experience preferred, or 8+ years in medical device development.Demonstrated communication skills with teammates and managers.Ability to lead PDTs on small projects, write test protocols/reports, and conduct testing with limited supervision.Applied knowledge of 3D/2D modeling, GD&T, and basic FEA analysis.Proficient in managing ECOs to completion, using root cause analysis, and reading medical journals and patents.Understanding of Acumed’s Design Control processes.Completed Level 100 and 200 Anatomy and product training.Knowledge of anatomy, clinical issues, and at least one technical specialty area.Ability to conduct literature searches and create competitive product matrices.Following receipt of a conditional offer of employment, candidates will be required to complete additional job-related screening processes as permitted or required by applicable law.
