We are seeking an experienced Product Development Engineer to join our Outdoor Performance platform team. The Outdoor Performance strategic priorities are to be consumer-first focused, lead with power brands, and invest inwards. We will create product innovation and deliver scale through shared product design and development teams focused around four major categories: Soft Goods, Hard Goods and Equipment, Outdoor Cooking, as well as IOT and Connected Devices.
The primary function of this role is translating new concepts and designs into finished products, as well as existing products/product lines. Evaluates and recommends specifications and ensures products meet the technical and functional requirements. The Product Design Engineer recommends and follows reliable, efficient, and cost-effective procedures. Performs feasibility, functional, and quality testing of designs. Additionally, the Product Design Engineer works with other members of the engineering staff to ensure project milestones are met and that projects are completed according to established timelines. The Product Development Engineer works autonomously. Goals are generally communicated in "solution" or project goal terms. May provide a leadership role for the work group through knowledge in specific areas of specialization. Works on advanced, complex technical projects or business issues requiring state of the art technical or industry knowledge.
The PDE requires a highly detailed and organized individual who can maintain clear and open communication in a high pressure and time sensitive environment. This role functions primarily as a project-specific engineer responsible for identifying technology and design compatibilities and developing specific solutions for product manufacturing. The secondary function of this role is to examine existing products and identify solutions to improve efficiency by utilizing new manufacturing capabilities. A collaborative effort is essential for aligning the final products with the company's values and vision, thus fulfilling the dual purpose of meeting business objectives, and making a positive impact on both customers and the environment.
This position reports to the Development Director of Product Development – Camp Chef and is based out of Logan Utah.
Responsibilities include:
Creating the technical design and initial process creation of new products.Collaborates with the development team in creation of prototypes of assigned soft good designs across the multiple business channels.Strong teamwork with the manufacturing team to conceptualize new process ideas based on competitive and market needs. Work with developers and operations group to improve cost and ease of manufacturing.Heavy CAD workload throughout development cycle to flesh out ideas and to execute the final design from conception to Manufacturing. Create and maintain design documentation such as engineering drawings and bill of materials to ensure quality in product from conception to finalization.Continued learning and expand knowledge through trade shows and continued education.Work with Developers and Operations group to improve cost and ease of manufacturing. Communicate internally and with international factories and vendors; both verbally and in writing critical and pertinent information that is needed in the development process. Consistently meet or beat assigned deliverables and project schedule dates. Holds “specialist” role for the R&D group in at least one domain. Take on minor and major level projects outside of day-to-day product design. Work with suppliers throughout design, quoting, tooling, and production processes. Partner with cross-functional teams to fulfill all calendared development deliverables, spanning from seasonal project kickoff to final pre-production sample approval. Identifies new processes and technology to gain efficiency and cost savings on existing products. Evaluate and provide impacts of design changes to ROI and project management. Participate in daily product team meetings with cross-functional teams, to coordinate project actions, mitigate project risks, and communicate challenges and potential solutions.You have:
2 - 5 years of experience in mechanical engineering product development.Experience with manufacturing techniques machining and injection molding. Experience of Microsoft applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project). Experience coordinating activities across multiple departments and stakeholders.Strong written and verbal communication skills.Ability to easily transition from macro thinking to micro thinking.Good judgment with the ability to drive timely and sound decisions.Commitment to excellence and high standards.Demonstrated ability to lead a meeting and keep the topics relevant.Excellent problem recognition and collaboration skills for resolution.Ability to escalate issues in a concise and timely manner.Proven ability to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines.Pay Range:
$69,700.00 - $109,100.00The actual annual salary offered to a candidate will be based on variables including experience, geographic location, education, and skills/achievements, and will be mutually agreed upon at the time of offer.
