Job Description

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

 

As a Product Development Engineer, you will be part of a team that develops state-of-the-art Residential HVAC products as part of the Advanced Distributor Products (ADP) business of Lennox International. You will develop a variety of products ranging from evaporator coils to air handling units using environmentally friendly low GWP refrigerants. 

 

Up to 30% travel to Grenada, Mississippi and the ADP plant. 

This role involves developing innovative design solutions following our Product Development Roadmap.  Execute projects or the major phases of projects related to Residential HVAC products. Close collaboration with a team of design engineers in CAD, FEA, CFD, airflow and heat transfer is necessary. Introduce products that are environmentally friendly using Low Global Warming Potential A2L You will interface with ADP and Lennox International laboratory network for planning, evaluating and making recommendations on new product designs, agency compliance and product performance.  Job requires collaboration with R&D Subject Matter Experts across ADP and the residential business to leverage best practices.   Work on projects consisting of cross-functional teams including Marketing, Sales, Manufacturing, IT, Finance and Customer Service. Define and execute new product/idea/component evaluation and test plans taking into account testing capabilities and needs. Coordinate the efforts of designers and technical support staff. Interface with suppliers / vendors in forming strategic partnerships to acquire desired functionality and performance of components. Train, develop and mentor team members in the disciplines of refrigeration design, heat transfer and airflow (air movers) and understanding of HVAC product applications. Provide support to customers in diagnose and solution of field problems. Foster a good relationship early in the design phases. Contribute to innovation process with new ideas and provide incentive to others in the generation of Intellectual Property. Use of creativity to improve processes, tools and to promote best practices in design, testing and Participate in technical committees in ASHRAE, AHRI, Lennox Product Development & Research, external consortiums & universities to drive innovation in air flow and heat transfer surface designs. Interface with approval and certification agencies such as UL, ETL & AHRI.

 

Qualifications

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR: 

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering required + at least 7 years related experience in product design for HVAC&R markets required.Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering (Thermal Sciences) + 5 years related HVAC product development experience desired.  Project Management Skills through the use of gated processes (Stage Gate).  Use of analytical tools (EES, Refprop, CoilDesigner, Excel) and CAD (Creo, Windchill) Expert knowledge of air moving systems, including blowers/fans selection, motor pairing, testing and theoretical analysis of performance. Knowledge of AHRI 210/240 certification program and test standards.  Requires expert knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production of drawings, 3D models, bills of material etc.  Knowledge of HVAC safety standards such as UL60335-2-40, ASHRAE15 & 15.2.  Excellent verbal, written communication and presentation skills.
