The Product Development Engineer – Team Lead is a key innovation role, designing new products and processes based on customer performance objectives. The position is accountable for establishing design objectives, testing procedures, prototyping, assessing manufacturability and scalability, communicating with customers, project management, and launching new products.

Responsibilities Product Design and DevelopmentDefine product requirements, conceptualize ideas, and translate them into detailed designs. Use engineering principles, CAD software, and other tools to create prototypes, conduct simulations, and iterate designs based on test results and customer feedback.Actively seek opportunities for continuous improvement and innovation in product design, manufacturing processes, and cost-efficiency. Feasibility Analysis & PrototypingEvaluate factors such as technical viability, manufacturing capabilities, cost analysis, and potential risks to make informed decisions about pursuing or modifying product concepts. Coordinate and conduct testing and validation activities to ensure that the product meets design specifications/standards for functionality, performance, and user experience. Collaboration and Project Management Work closely with cross-functional teams, including engineering, sales, marketing, quality, supply chain, and manufacturing teams to ensure seamless coordination throughout the product development lifecycle. Lead project execution, establish timelines, set milestones, track progress, and communicate updates to stakeholders.Collaborate with suppliers and vendors to source components, materials, and services necessary for product development. Documentation and ReportingCreate and maintain comprehensive documentation related to product development process including technical drawings, specifications, bills of materials, testing reports, and other relevant documentation.Ensure documentation is accurate, up-to-date, and easily accessible to stakeholders. Team ManagementSupervise the PDE technician team in planning and executing engineering trial runs on production equipmentCoordinate project reviews and daily management activities with on-site peers

Engineering ExpertisePracticed understanding of engineering principles. Must be able to analyze technical requirements, design functional & efficient products, and effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams throughout the development process.Analytical and Problem-Solving SkillsThe ability to think critically, analyze complex problems, and develop innovative solutions. They should possess strong problem-solving skills to identify and address design issues, optimize performance, overcome technical obstacles, and ensure the feasibility of their designs within given constraints.Design and CAD ProficiencyProficiency in design and computer-aided design (CAD) software for creating product models and technical drawings. Adept at translating conceptual ideas into detailed designs, considering factors such as product functionality, manufacturability, and ergonomics.Project Management and CollaborationDemonstrate effective project management and collaboration skills. Need to be able to manage multiple tasks, set priorities, and meet deadlines while working with cross-functional teams. This includes coordinating with designers, engineers, manufacturers, suppliers, and other stakeholders throughout the product development lifecycle.Knowledge of Manufacturing ProcessNeeds a solid understanding of manufacturing processes and their implications on product design. Must have Knowledge of materials, fabrication techniques, tooling, and assembly processes to design products that are optimized for efficient and cost-effective manufacturing. Able to consider factors such as scalability, quality control, supply chain management, and production feasibility to ensure successful transition from prototype to mass production. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Engineering. Mechanical, Biomedical, Materials, or Chemical Engineering preferred.Three (3) to Five (5) years or more experience in polymer product design and manufacturing, or a related field.Strong problem-solving and analytical skillsExperience in the design and launch of custom OEM components preferred. Knowledge and practical applications experience in plastics and polymers preferred.Demonstrated proficiency in CAD and product design preferred.Excellent communication and collaboration skills – Effective coordination of internal and external stakeholders.
