Job Description:

Reporting to the Director, Life Insurance, the Product Manager will be a champion for individual life insurance products with an emphasis on growing sales and managing the new business product portfolio.  We are looking for individuals who have a passion for product management – working with our distribution, marketing, new business and insurance services partners in supporting activities related to the management of products within the individual life insurance portfolio including: Term, Non-par Whole life, Universal Life, and Participating Whole Life.

This role has three main accountabilities that relate to management of the three product lines:

Accountable for market intelligence, including monitoring the competitive landscape, understanding market trends, and communicating competitive information to our leadership team.

Monitoring and analyzing our individual products and product mix trends against our product strategy, taking a 360 end-to-end view on product health across underwriting, sales, client engagement, profitability, and claims.

Accountable for managing tasks related to the delivery of product projects and supporting product development opportunities within the product lines.

Additional responsibilities:

Lead the continuous development of subject matter expertise as it relates to life insurance by becoming an expert on the Sun Life individual life insurance portfolio as well as the go to person for information about the Canadian market.

As the subject matter expert:

Provide Tier 3 support for advisor, client, and administration inquiries regarding legacy products and the current product offering, thinking ‘outside the box’ to seek creative solutions within the terms of existing contracts or considering requests for exceptions.

Support Director of Life Insurance in the rollout of new product initiatives.

Support the Associate Product Manager by handling referrals, completing peer reviews, providing on-the-go coaching and being the back up on the team’s Inbox management activities.

Collaborate with internal partners to ensure product content integrates with other company wide initiatives.

What do you need to succeed?

Proven abilities for research as well as data collection, manipulation and interpretation

Expert knowledge of life insurance products and how they are sold

Innovative thinking that can break down barriers and provide unique solutions

Confident decision-making skills

Demonstrated self-management,  initiative and time management skills

Proven strong collaborator with demonstrated negotiation skills

Ability to handle multiple high-priority tasks while at the same time maintaining a high standard of accuracy and professionalism

Ability to confidently deliver difficult messages directly to advisors

Skilled with Microsoft Excel and the use of pivot tables

Preferred skills:

Product management or product marketing experience

Financial or actuarial background

Familiarity with the individual life insurance solutions offered by Sun Life and their administration

Experience working with insurance advisors

Proficiency working with Word, PowerPoint, OneNote, SharePoint and Tableau

Previous experience with coaching and mentoring

Bilingualism (English/French)

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted.  It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors.  In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance.  Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
