Product Manager II, Billing

What We Do

The Billing team creates solutions that enable the use of Mapbox products in a way that customers are automatically, securely, and accurately billed by actual usage volume of our services. The team is responsible for developing automated billing and customer identity and access control systems.

We are a globally distributed team that works remotely and mostly async, believes in iterative experimentation, and fosters a collaborative environment that allows growth and delivery at scale.

What You'll Do

Working closely with the team in Helsinki, Finland, and various stakeholders across North America, you will develop flexible and secure usage-based billing and identity & access control solutions for all our customers. Your work will also drive anti-fraud initiatives and build a future-proof billing platform for Mapbox’s internal service teams and analytics.

As a curious and data-driven Product Manager II, you'll join the Billing team at the right time to lead the vision, roadmap, and execution of the next set of initiatives that will make this happen.

More specifically, in this role you can expect to: 

Lead the strategy, vision, roadmap and execution: Catalyze the expansion of Mapbox’s next generation billing platform and authentication service, pricing model evolution, and anti-fraud mechanics.

Navigate and maintain stakeholder relationships: Foster strong relationships with globally distributed cross-functional teams, including Engineering, Finance, Legal, Security, Analytics and Sales, to align product vision with business objectives.

Manage pricing releases: Work with leadership and constituents to create a launch strategy for pricing changes.

Define features and requirements: With acute focus on revenue, security, reliability and scalability.

Manage the lifecycle: Ensure minimal disruption to existing customers and define migration paths for transitioning to newer solutions.

Document your work and decision-making processes: Lead presentations and discussions in a way that is easy for others to understand and collaborate.

Uphold a culture of collaboration: We believe in transparency, creativity, inclusion, and data-driven decisions.

What We Believe are Important Traits for This Role

Location – you are located in New York City or Eastern Standard Time (EST) in the US.  

Experience – you possess 5+ years of experience as a Technical Product Manager working cross-functionally with hundreds of engineers building multi-quarter roadmaps and shipping products to achieve it. Experience in payments, billing, identity and authorization technology is a plus. 

Communication – you possess excellent written and verbal communication skills interfacing with both technical and non-technical global audiences. 

Technical depth -  you like system design thinking, are not afraid to get your hands dirty working with data and SQL, and can effectively collaborate with senior technical leaders across the company.

Metrics and impact-driven – you have a keen sense of translating customer needs into product solutions that create value and drive business outcomes.

Self-starter – you are autonomous and proactive thinking around the corner driving work to completion in the face of ambiguity.

Team Player – you love and seek to collaborate and share your expertise with individuals of diverse backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences through documentation, mentorship, and both written and vocal discussion.

Technology – you are familiar with Systems Architecture, Microservices, Databases, Software Security, Web Services, Anti-Fraud, Big Data.

Nice to Have Traits for This Role

Prior background as a software engineer building backend web services.

Experience in software security and anti-fraud.

Our annual base compensation for this role ranges from $144,075 - $194,925 for most US locations and 5% to 10% higher for US locations with a higher cost of labor. Job level and actual compensation will be decided based on factors including, but not limited to, individual qualifications objectively assessed during the interview process (including skills and prior relevant experience, potential impact, and scope of role), market demands, and specific work location.
