Pay Range

$182,310 - $277,344 Annually

$182,310 - $231,180 Annually for the SEL.3 level

$218,700 - $277,344 Annually for the SEL.4 level

This is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting.  An employee’s position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, specific competencies, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, and business or organizational needs.

Job Description

We have an opening for a Product Realization Team (PRT) Leader for the W87-1 Modernization Program’s Pit PRT. You will lead the PRT into sustained production for the components within the specific PRT’s scope in partnership with the NNSA Production Agencies and programmatic staff from across the laboratory to include Physics, Chemistry,  and Quality.  You will manage a detailed schedule to ensure on time delivery to support the program. This position will be in Defense Technologies Engineering Division (DTED). DTED supports the Strategic Deterrence (SD) Program.

This position will be filled at either level based on knowledge and related experience as assessed by the hiring manager.  Responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if hired at the higher level.

Depending on your assignment, this position may offer a hybrid schedule, blending in-person and virtual presence. You may have the flexibility to work from home one or more days per week.

You will

•    Provide the PRT with leadership in complex project engineering and management, design development, product realization, qualification, and certification.
•    Lead and manage PRT engagements with Production Agencies (PAs) executing Pit manufacturing and the ramp to rate production.
•    Direct and assign work to engineering team members by guiding and balancing workload planning among team members, assigning work, and remaining cognizant of complex technical goals, problems, and solutions, as well as tracking progress of group projects, milestones, and schedules to ensure deadlines are met.
•    Define, track, and complete PRT objectives on time and within budget in collaboration with other essential LLNL support personnel. Monitor performance required to meet programmatic milestones and deliverables. Engage to correct deficiencies and lead corrective actions where necessary.
•    Represent the PRT at meetings, briefings, and committee activities both internal and external to the Laboratory; providing advanced technical analysis and recommendations.
•    Ensure that PRT risks and requirements are communicated in an effective and timely manner, and provide advice to program leadership.
•    Perform other duties as assigned.

Additional job responsibilities, at the SEL.4 level

•    Influence strategic technical decisions made by program management and external stakeholders.
•    Utilize subject matter expertise to strategically anticipate, identify, and provide technical leadership to stay ahead of potential problems of high complexity.
•    Develop new ideas, modify approaches, and/or redefine requirements that impact organizational operations or directions.
•    Mentor staff across the PRT. Advise across the program as an expert in weapon design engineering, 6.X lifecycle processes, PAs, PRTs and product realization, certification, and qualification work.
•    Serve as program spokesperson to Laboratory management and/or peers in the Nuclear Security Enterprise.

Qualifications

•    This position requires an active Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance or active Top Secret clearance issued by another U.S. government agency at the time of hire.
•    Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field, or equivalent combination of education and related experience.
•    Significant experience with design engineering, 6.X lifecycle processes, PAs, PRTs and product realization, certification, and qualification work.
•    Significant leadership experience and demonstrated ability to successfully lead work in a technical or scientific environment.
•    Advanced level knowledge of nuclear warhead engineering, systems, and design.
•    Significant experience with project management tools and techniques, including work planning, scheduling, cost estimating, analyzing, and managing budgets.
•    Advanced level problem-solving skills, with the ability to develop and implement effective solutions for complex technical challenges.
•    Advanced communication, facilitation, negotiation, and collaboration skills, necessary to present, explain, mediate, compromise, and advise program management and/or external stakeholders.
•    Ability to promote and maintain productive relationships across the PRT.
•    Experience working independently and responsively to changing priorities and ability to meet deadlines and keep management well informed.
•    Ability to travel.

Additional qualifications at the SEL.4 level

•    Subject matter expert knowledge of nuclear warhead engineering, systems, and design.
•    Expert communication, facilitation, negotiation and collaboration skills necessary to effectively present, explain, mediate, compromise, influence, and advise senior management and external stakeholders.
•    Extensive experience with, and expert knowledge of project management tools and techniques, including work planning, scheduling, cost estimating, analyzing, and managing budgets.
•    Extensive experience and expert ability to apply, lead, modify, and/or develop highly advanced principles, theories, concepts, and technologies.

Security Clearance
