Production Assistant

Purpose of the role

 

As a Production Assistant, you will play a crucial role in supporting craft workers, maintaining housekeeping, performing routine manual tasks, and assisting with environmental responsibilities. You will use computerised systems to record and report any defects and operate various equipment such as forklift trucks, cranes, and MEWPS. Your role is vital in reducing the likelihood of costly breakdowns and improving the overall reliability and safety of plant and personnel.

You will typically work around 39 hours a week, with occasional additional hours, weekends, or nights to coordinate work with other departments and minimise downtime. You may also be required to work on other FHC sites, such as Ffestiniog Power Station

 

Key Responsibilities:

Assist electrical/mechanical craft workers, technicians, craft operators, riggers, and scaffolders. Maintain housekeeping in all areas of power station buildings, plant, and equipment. Perform routine manual tasks associated with craft activities, minor repairs, and basic use of workshop power equipment. Manage hazardous waste skips, waste solvent storage, lakes and water courses, and legionella monitoring. Observe plant and take readings/records. Carry out main and auxiliary plant inspections. Operate forklift trucks, MEWPS, cranes, hoists, and winches. Keep records of activities carried out in the works management system. Hold safety responsibilities as a Person under National Grid Company Safety Rules.

Knowledge and Skills:

Practical knowledge of industrial safety. Knowledge of EH&S legislation, including LOLER and PUWER. Basic rigging, lifting, and scaffolding operations knowledge. IT skills to manage the computerised work activity management system. Accuracy and attention to detail. Effective communication skills at all levels.
