Team or Function Overview

GAF's Manufacturing facility in Chester is located in an area known not only for its scenic beauty but for its dedication to community. Located between Charlotte, NC and Columbia, SC Chester is in a prime location for anyone with any interests varying from hiking, hunting and fishing, to enjoying the cuisine, culture, and activities expected from larger city environments. The Chester Glass Mat facility boasts a highly tenured workforce of just under 100 employees with a safety record of nearly 24 years without a lost-time injury. As our employees will tell you, when you come to Chester, you'll never want to leave!

Essential Duties

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

● Train and become proficient in multiple operating positions, including but not limited to Loader, Fiber Feeder Operator, Rewinder Operator, Utility, and A-Station.

● Participate in all housekeeping functions for assigned crew.

● Participate in all short stop/down day activities for assigned crew.

● Assist as needed with logistics department.

● Must operate assigned machinery in compliance with standard procedures.

● Responsible for operation of equipment in a safe manner to prevent damage to equipment and prevent injury to self and others. Must wear safety and health protective equipment as specified.

● Must be able to safely load and unload material using a forklift and/or clamp-truck.

● In addition to the forklift, there will be other basic material handling tools. A hand truck, drum truck, etc., will be used when it becomes a more efficient method of material handling.

● Must be able to operate a computer as well as multiple computer-based systems.

● Must keep accurate operational records as directed.

● Must show a commitment to working in a team environment, while keeping a positive attitude and a willingness to be flexible.

● Other duties as assigned.

Schedule

12-hour day/night weekly rotating schedule

7 AM - 7 PM & 7 PM - 7 AM

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls. The employee frequently is required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee is daily required to climb industrial ladders and/or stairs.

The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

High School diploma or general education degree (GED). Manufacturing experience preferred.

● Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few physical variables in every day situations.

● Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to read and interpret metal rule.
