BorgWarner PowerDrive Systems is currently looking for “dynamic, results driven” individual to join as Production Manager at our new production plant in Viana, Portugal.

Key responsibilities

Plan, schedule, facilitate and supervise the daily activities of the production team(s), ensuring that quality, safety, cost efficiency and on-time delivery goals are metDirect and supervise the activities associated with the provision of global quality and technical support of manufacturing engineering in the areas of production, which meet/or exceed customer expectationsIdentify potential improvements (together with production teams) that reduce COPQ costs annually, improve quality and maximize customer satisfactionEnsure the maximum safety, quality, capacity and use of equipment and manufacturing/processing processesPromote continuous research and implementation of “Best Practice” in manufacturing/processing methods and processesParticipates in the development and implementation of the Strategic Plan for Production EngineeringCoordinate with other functional managers in order to plan and implement manufacturing programsFacilitate the introduction of new products and/or modifications to current productsReview and reference processing and manufacturing equipment and toolsEnsure that they develop, use and maintain effective control and documentation systemsAssist the Chief Operating Officer in recommending, and justifying, the capital planCoordinate the implementation of new equipment and processes, together with the manufacturing teams (line equipment and AR expenses)Ability to monitor and establish a production schedule that meets the requirements defined in existing programs and designed by customersDevelop and present presentations to customers, employees and teamsSupervise employees: hiring, development, performance management and succession planning processesParticipate in problem-solving activities (example: 8D's, 6M's and 5W's) related to safety and quality mattersManage daily production inventory including continuous improvement planManage workforce efficiency including continuous improvement planActively participate in the identification and implementation of scrap and rework reduction plansPerform other tasks not included in the activity for which he was hired, when needs or service convenience so justify, for the period of time necessary for the aforementioned service needs or convenienceEstablish continuous improvement plans that lead to a more efficient organizationFacilitate efficient and open communication within the department and with other departments in the organizationEnsure the respect and compliance with the safety and cleanliness rules of the workstationContinuously ensure the improvement of health, safety and environmental conditionsParticipate in the definition, implementation and maintenance of the organization's policiesParticipate in the definition of objectives of the Environmental Management Policy, Health and Safety at WorkActively participate in the continuous improvement of the Environmental Management Policy, Health and Safety at WorkEnsure compliance with environmental, health and safety at work standards, policies and practices in accordance with their level of responsibilityDevelop a culture characterized by good professional ethics and involvement in the process among employees in all areasComply with environmental, health and safety, quality and productivity standardsComply with the organization's rules and internal regulations: Code of Ethics, practice and working periodRespect workplace safety and cleanliness rulesPerform other tasks not included in the activity for which they were hired, when the needs or convenience of service so warrant, for the period of time necessary for the aforementioned needs or convenience of service

Education & Experience

Degree in Engineering or in a related technical area3- 5 years of professional engineering experienceProfessional career characterized by successfully developed product launches/programs, or equivalentAvailable to travel with minimal notification in urgent situationsVery good knowledge of quality tools and Lean methodsVery good knowledge of Industry 4.0 technologyVery good knowledge in leading and developing production teamsStrong supervisory training and skillsAbility to train a production teamSolid and versatile knowledge, skills and capabilities of manufacturing processes and quality assuranceSkills in the following domains: DOE, GD&T, FMEA, SPC, Time and Motion Analysis, Financial and Cost Analysis and Value AnalysisA Production Engineer, expert in a functional area such as manufacturing, electromechanical assembly, electrical or mold engineeringSolid knowledge of quality systems and manufacturing (including automation)Operational knowledge of the budgeting processExperience in successfully developed project launchesSolid skills in project management, communication, organizational and presentation skillsSolid problem-solving skillsSolid knowledge of effective health, safety and ergonomics practices and conceptsSolid knowledge of automotive industry standards and its customersSolid knowledge of visual industry conceptsFluent in PortugueseFluent in EnglishThird language is an advantage
