Production Planner

The opportunity:

The Production Planner role is responsible for planning production orders to meet cost and service commitments.  This role serves as a liaison between Customer Service and Manufacturing and is accountable for creating job tickets with accurate and complete specifications.  Additionally, this role is responsible to identify special materials and/or external resources needed for the job and collaborate with procurement/outsourcing team to ensure timelines can be met.  

How you will impact: 

Plans production jobs to meet cost and service commitments in alignment with the production schedule and/or priorities set by the Planning Lead. Communicates upcoming changes, rush orders or delays that may impact the scheduling horizon.Accountable for compiling accurate and complete Job Specifications in collaboration with the Customer Service team. Groups sales orders with like specifications and attributes to determine best run approach (single run, tandem, combination).Plans the layouts for production jobs (manual or electronic) and calculates required paperboard size and spoilage.  May use Phoenix optimizer to plan low complexity layouts and jobs.  Must attain a 90%+ sheet utilization or must be approved by the Plant Manager or General Manager.Creates accurate and complete production estimates in alignment with the approved layout, raw material requirements, waste rates, and speeds for planned jobs; Supports Lead Planner with data entry activities for planned jobs.Creates manufacturing Job tickets (production orders) and virtual work tickets/job bags (where applicable)Identifies orders with special attributes that require outsourcing and collaborates with the outsourcing team to ensure requirements are met. Collaborate with Procurement on non-standard materials needed to produce the job (paperboard, ink, dies, films, etc.) and initiates requirements as needed in the Radius system.Must be involved with and or plan new job critical reviews with the Management Team to ensure production ownership and accountability.Be involved as necessary in post job reviews to assist in determining improvement actions that may be implemented on future runs. Responsible to demonstrate behaviors that align with company values and always put safety first.    

What You need to Succeed:

Folding Carton or Printing Industry a plus but not necessaryAbility to identify issues, analyze them, and determine action items to resolve them.Experience with layout optimization applications and/or prepress modules preferredTechnical experience and/or working knowledge of sheet fed printing, die cutting and finishing technologiesDemonstrated computer skills with Microsoft office suite including Outlook, TEAMs, and Excel spreadsheets.  ERP system experience preferred.Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills.Effective communication skills including verbal, written, active listening and digital communication. Effective interpersonal and collaboration skillsRequires full-time in-person availability Candidates are required to undergo a drug screening after receiving a conditional job offer, but before starting employment.
