Job Title: Production Planner

Department: Hy-Vee Beverage Mfg.

FLSA: Exempt

General Function: The Production Planner will be responsible for managing raw material procurement, monitoring inventory levels, creating and maintaining production schedules, coordinating the shipment of finished goods, and tracking costs to ensure efficient and cost-effective operations. This role requires strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills to meet production and customer demands effectively.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Raw Material Procurement:

Source, negotiate, and purchase raw materials in alignment with production requirements and company budgets.

Maintain relationships with suppliers to ensure timely delivery and address any supply chain issues.

Monitor market trends and price fluctuations to identify cost-saving opportunities.

Inventory Management:

Track inventory levels of raw materials and finished goods to ensure optimal stock levels.

Conduct regular inventory audits and reconcile discrepancies.

Implement strategies to reduce waste and optimize storage utilization.

Production Scheduling:

Develop and maintain production schedules based on customer orders, forecasts, and capacity constraints.

Coordinate with production teams to ensure timely and efficient manufacturing processes.

Adjust schedules as needed to accommodate changes in demand or production delays.

Logistics and Shipping:

Organize and oversee the shipment of finished goods to customers or distribution centers.

Ensure compliance with shipping regulations and maintain accurate shipping documentation.

Collaborate with logistics providers to optimize transportation costs and delivery times.

Cost Tracking and Analysis:

Monitor and track costs related to materials, labor, and production processes.

Prepare regular cost reports and provide insights to management for budget control and decision-making.

Identify areas for cost reduction and process improvement.

Maintains a positive attitude and creates an atmosphere of friendliness and fun through flexibility and teamwork.

Performs other job-related duties and special projects as required.

Ensure compliance to plant policies and Federal and State regulations including Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and SQF standards.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Worker Characteristics:

Excellent organizational, time management and communication skills.

Experience with managing people.

Ability to solve problems and identify misunderstandings while adapting to changes throughout daily operations.

Knowledge of current OSHA guidelines and other safety regulations.

Must have the ability to use logical or scientific thinking to solve problems and with several abstract and concrete variables.

Must have the ability to do arithmetic calculations involving fractions, decimals and percentages and have basic computer skills.

Lean manufacturing experience is a plus.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Industrial Engineering, or a related field preferred.

• Proven experience in production planning, inventory management, or a similar role.

• Strong understanding of supply chain processes and ERP/MRP systems.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other data analysis tools.

• Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and multitasking skills.

• Strong communication and negotiation abilities.

• Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.

Physical Requirements:

Must be physically able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally; exert up to 20 pounds of force frequently; and exert up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Must be able to be on feet (standing and walking) for 8-12 hours a day.

Visual requirements include vision from less than 20 inches to more than 20 feet with or without correction, depth perception, color vision, and field of vision.

Must be able to perform the following physical activities: Climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.

Must be able to work long hours at times under extreme temperatures.

Computer, pallet jack, forklift, box cutter, knives, trash compactor, calculator, telephone, and manufacturing machinery
