Production Roaster

We're excited to announce an opportunity to join our coffee team as a Production Roaster. This is an on-site position based at our Roasting Plant in Oakland, CA. The shift is Monday through Friday, 7:00am - 3:30pm.

 

WHAT YOU’LL DO

Operate green bean receiving, loading, and staging systems in support of the production roasting team. Learn and operate drum roaster and ancillary equipment (Afterburner, Silo, and Conveyance systems etc.) under supervision. Learn and perform start up and shutdown SOPs of all roasting equipment. Perform preventive maintenance and cleaning tasks for all roasting related equipment. Daily documented cleaning of roasting machinery and work area following GMP’s. Learn and participate in Quality Control programs and tasks. Learn, support, and participate in coffee cupping, tasting, and quality control lab activities. Learn and perform tasks related to inventory accounting and reporting.  Report maintenance issues to the supervisor. Operate forklifts to move equipment and supplies. Ensure compliance with HACCP, Cal / OSHA, FSMA and all food and worker safety processes, procedures, regulations, and sustainability compliance programs. Accurate data entry using software including MPE, Cropster, Excel, and Others.  Follow Safety / OSHA processes, procedures and regulations Follow Food Safety (FSMA) processes, procedures and regulations Support department and facility efforts to prepare for SQF Audit and SQF certification. Continuous improvement and 5S projects as directed. Contribute to a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a professional manner with customers, suppliers, and co-workers. Other projects and duties as assigned

 

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

1-2 years experience working in a coffee roasting facility or related industry preferred.  Passion for coffee and the desire to learn the craft of coffee roasting.  Understanding of basic mechanical principles with the ability to read and assimilate information from equipment technical manuals, system operations diagrams and schematic drawings. Must be flexible to schedule changes in order to meet demands of a growing and dynamic production schedule.  Basic math skills (adding, subtracting multiplication), able to make quick calculations related to production planning and inventory management.  Strong attention to detail while completing repetitive tasks to ensure accuracy of all quantities of products received, processed and roasted. Strong command of the English language; verbal, written, and reading comprehension.  ServSafe Food Handler and Forklift Experience a plus. Organizational, time management, problem-solving, interpersonal, and analytical skills.

 

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Visual acuity. Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction. Bending, Reaching, Pulling, Pushing, Extending arms/hands for majority of shift. Remaining upright on the feet, particularly for sustained periods of time. Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another. Exerting up to 20-40 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for Light Work.

 

**Compensation & Benefits

A reasonable estimate of the starting hourly range for this role is $22-$26. Please note that the base salary will vary based on qualifications, previous experience, and work location.
