PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

The Production Operations Supervisor is responsible for producing high quality Dyneema products in the most cost-effective manner and according to the production plan, while maintaining excellent safety, human relations, and environmental standards.

JOB CONTEXT:

The Production Supervisor is responsible for creating and maintaining a culture of continuous improvement, first time right throughout the entire operation of their assigned team/shift and in alignment with vision and goals of the site.  This person also has operational responsibilities for the effective management of labor, productivity outputs, quality control, and safety measures as established by Avient.

Success in the Production Supervisor role will be highly dependent on the leadership skills of the person that serves in this position. They will supervise the overall production operations and support their team in achieving performance goals by providing strong leadership. Their leadership should focus on safety, maintaining quality standards, implementing standardized work processes, and levering manufacturing best practices. In addition, they should promote a culture of ownership and accountability across the shift.

The Production Supervisor must be able to engage and develop their team members by setting clear expectations, providing individualized feedback, and successfully managing the performance of their team.

Key Areas of Accountability / Responsibility

Safety, Security & Health of All Employees

Show behaviour in line with the SHE and Security risks and agreed controls, including being compliant to AVIENT requirements, rules and procedures. Assures that all employees follow established occupational safety rules, housekeeping, Hazmat regulations, and SOPs. Conduct safety incident reporting, corrective action responses, and documenting observed risks. Abides by and enforces Avient procedures/policies regarding security, inclusive of: employee security agreements; use of non-disclosure agreements with outside parties; control of intellectual property limited to a “need to know” only basis; no unauthorized use of cell phones, cameras, computers or AVIENT property; reporting security threats and incidents; proper control of Avient property and keys. Champion sustainability by promoting a “reduce/reuse/recycle” philosophy within their team.

Inspiring, Leading, and Developing Teams

Operational Excellence

            ·       Support and drive productivity to meet plant and corporate initiatives, as outlined in the manufacturing plan.

            ·       Responsible for compliance with relevant laws, regulatory requirements, recipes, SOP’s, and other related documentation and                         activities.

·       Make routine rounds of the entire facility to ensure production standards are met through the use of approved operational procedures.

·       Actively contribute to Lean, 5S, and Continuous Improvement efforts within the Production area and hold their teams accountable to improvements in the area.

·       Active contribution to resolving unplanned deviations. This includes real time documentation and root cause analysis.

·       Ensures that production schedule is met by distributing workload in accordance with changing priorities.

·       Perform other duties as assigned.

Successfully Implement Change Initiatives

Evaluates/solves operation problems by reviewing the area of concern, developing potential solutions, technically evaluating or testing the solutions, and preparing summary reports/recommendations for management. Be a key player in instituting changes, advocate for and promote the change from within, and implement with your team. Provides communication of changes and works to deescalate conflict when necessary. Ability to problem solve to remove barriers of change while at the same time creating supports for the change

Authorities

Authorized to approve work permits per details included in DYNPRO SHE DYN 026. If so authorized, employee must maintain necessary refresher training to participate in these activities.

Projects or Special Assignments

Operational Excellence Roles SAP Roles (as required)

This position involves work with (supervision of) and/or handling hazardous materials and waste at the Avient Protective Materials (Greenville, NC) work site.  Worker has the appropriate qualifications to read, understand, apply and communicate written and verbal information regarding handling and managing hazardous wastes.  Training is required within six months of worker assuming duty, and once a year thereafter.  Worker is responsible for proper handling, documentation, inspection and transporting around the facility of hazardous wastes.  Worker may also be responsible for responding to emergencies involving hazardous waste. 

KNOWLEDGE AND EDUCATIONAL LEVEL:

High school diploma (Required) with at least 3-5 years of experience working in a manufacturing, production, or equivalent military technical experiences / training. Bachelor’s degree (Preferred)   Working knowledge and/or routine use of the business processes and platforms such as:

o   Microsoft Office Suite and related Digital Platforms

o   Manufex, Operational Excellence and Good Manufacturing Processes (GMP)

o   SAP

o   Work permitting and work permit software

o   SHE requirements and practices

o   Relevant SHE assessments and investigation practices

o   Management of change and continuous improvement methodologies

REQUIRED LEVEL OF EXPERIENCE:

Experience leading a team and developing team members based on team member skill sets, desires for growth and business needs. Familiarity with implementing, modeling, following and enforcing safety, health and environment procedures and behaviors. Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with support groups and all levels of the organization. Strategic planning and organizational skills for short, medium and long term tasks and actions such as planning and ensuring the resources required to execute the production schedule Problem solving abilities to be able to quickly assess production issues and establish the best course of action Analytical skills to be able to spot issues/deficiencies of varying complexity within the manufacturing process quickly and take appropriate and timely action to rectify. Ability to make informed and data driven decisions quickly, at times under pressure Effective at time management to complete urgent, short, medium and long term tasks and actions Effective communication skills to disseminate information related to site and area goals, expectations, and other pertinent information to ensure understanding by team members     Ability to compile, analyze, interpret, and update business and production reports on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis Ability to lead, support, drive and effectively communicate change management Ability to coach, develop, empower, and hold team members accountable when appropriate Comfortable working in a manufacturing environment and understanding of machine controls and instrumentation Broad knowledge of production planning processes
