POSITION SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE: Responsible for training, planning, scheduling, and directing the work of a group of hourly production workers. This will include all aspects of safety, housekeeping, production, quality, and cost control in running the areas of responsibility effectively and efficiently.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Optimize production results, during assigned shifts, through training and instruction to operators in safe chemical operating/handling procedures, trouble shooting and correcting process difficulties and impediments in all aspects of the operation using ISO training and documentation. Maintain accurate and appropriate production records and reports as implemented by the appropriate site department managers. Ensure operator compliance with plant rules and regulations including all plant safety and housekeeping rules and handle employee discipline and employee grievances at the supervisor’s level. Ensure compliance with the provisions of the union contract, as appropriate, and keep the plant manager advised of potential or actual labor/union related problems. Assure equal opportunity for all aspects of development of personnel. Perform routine and/or special duties, as directed, while closely monitoring and controlling quality and meeting the production requirements for all equipment in area of responsibility while maintaining close control of all overtime hours worked. Ensure that documentation of and that batches (WIP & FG’s) moving between departments is correct and complete, including all aspects of customer quality. Check and approve the timecards of subordinates. Assist in departmental budget preparation and expense control. Conduct monthly departmental safety meeting and issue minutes, conduct required safety and housekeeping tours, complete accident reports, investigations, and environmental incident reports in a timely manner. Handle employee coaching/discipline and grievances Act as incident command for Emergency Response Team for any incidents during shift.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
HS Diploma or GED required. Minimum of 5 years’ experience supervising hourly production areas and personnel, in a manufacturing environment. Excellent communication skills with ability to clearly and professionally express thoughts and ideas. Flexible, change-agent individual with strong analytical, lean manufacturing, and continuous improvement skills. Strong organizational and time management skills. Ability to multi-task and to accomplish routine goals yet react quickly to changing plant priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Strong influence, collaboration and situational leadership skills are critical to the success of this person. Ability to become an active participant of the site Emergency Response Team and act as incident command. Ability to work on other shifts as needed when supervisory coverage is required.
PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Associate degree or equivalent in engineering or mechanical discipline. Union experience Supervisory experience within a Chemical or Batch environment.
POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK: Day or Night Shift, 12 hours/shift
