This position is within ITW’s Zip-Pak division.  Zip-Pak is the global leader in resealable solutions for the flexible packaging industry.  Our expertise in zipper, application technology, and packaging systems makes Zip-Pak the primary choice of brand owners, OEM’s, and converters for innovative resealable solutions.  Zip-Pak’s lean, modern, and continuous manufacturing environments produce zippers using high-volume plastic extrusion.  The division has +300 employees, 6 global manufacturing sites and presence in North America, South America, and Europe. **Overview:** The purpose of this position is to serve as a technical resource to a team of zipper extrusion operators. It is responsible for troubleshooting, teaching, and training operators on proper line setup and changeover. This position will work with the Team Lead to ensure team goals for productivity and efficiency are met while maintaining a safe audit-ready work environment. 12-hour shift (7pm-7am), 2-2-3 day schedule with alternating weekends off. **Primary Responsibilities:** Safety + Promote safety, strive for injury free workplace, and report all injuries and unsafe conditions. + Follow our GMP's, wear required PPE and follows all site safety procedures. + Act as a leader on the production floor by setting a good example in housekeeping and safety. + Ensure that all Food Safety Programs and procedures are followed at all times. + Employee shall adhere to all responsibilities outlined in the Food Safety Management System which is in accordance with the SQF Food Safety Code for Manufacturing of Food Packaging (code 9.0). Quality & Efficiency + Take initiative on the floor in identifying production issues and assists team leader or operators in quickly resolving them. + Verify lines are set up and running properly. + Inspect finished products for quality and adherence to customer specifications. + Ensure that operators understand specifications and follow quality procedures. + Ensure productivity and efficiency goals are met by working with operators to help them become self-sufficient in setting up and changing over production lines. + Assist with and train all team members on troubleshooting techniques for both product and equipment. + Set up and operate production equipment in accordance with GMP’s & SOP’s. Teamwork + Must be able to work and communicate with employees at all levels in the organization. + Demonstrate flexibility and cooperation in adapting to scheduling and job assignments. + Share workload with teammates and offer help to others in need. + Able to perform Team Supervisor responsibilities when needed. ITW Values + Live the ITW Values for Integrity, Simplicity, Trust, Respect, Shared Risk + Treat others with respect and dignity. + Recognize the value of each person’s contribution to our company. + Accept accountability and responsibility for the commitments you make to others and to the business. + Be Professional in the performance of your job. **Position Requirements:** **Formal Education & Certification** + High School Diploma or GED required + Internal OP Ex certification is required + Advanced technical training or experience in extrusion **_Knowledge & Experience_** + Knowledge of Extrusion Molding machines and its functions are required + 5 years of industrial manufacturing experience is preferred + Experience with PLCs and other manufacturing control system is an advantage + Excellent time management and organizational skills to prioritize tasks efficiently + Possess problem solving skills and abilities to work well under pressure + Must be highly motivated and able to work independently + The capability to take proactive steps in managing problems + Good verbal and written communication skills + Computer Skills: Ability to use Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) + Attendance: Maintains above average attendance among all production employees and demonstrates flexibility in working overtime to meet changing business demands. + Current Zip-Pak Employee Eligibility: If you have an active written warning on file, or are on probation or suspension, you are not eligible to apply for posted jobs. **Physical Requirements** + Lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds + Bend, turn and lift while performing the job + Climb stairs + Ability to work around hot items **Safety** + Safety is our utmost priority, and all employees are expected to follow safety guidelines and procedures + Use the correct personal protected equipment (PPE) while performing tasks + Participate in safety training programs and follow safe work practices at all times + Report any safety concerns or incidents promptly by filling out safety catch forms and turn in to supervisor + Shall acknowledge the Zip-Pak policy of requesting self-reporting of any illness, foodborne pathogens, or diseases which may be transmitted to food products and food contact surfaces that may jeopardize food safety + Understands and practices all safety/hygiene and GMP rules + Leads by example and ensures compliance to SQF rules + Maintains clean and orderly workplace/equipment + Shall support Food Safety Culture activities within the organization in support of Food Safety Management System in accordance with the Food Safety Code for Manufacture of Food Packaging **Compensation Information:** The hourly range for a Machine Operator 1 is $23.00 to $27.50 plus an additional $1.00 shift premium. The pay rate for a successful candidate will depend on the geographic location, this pay range is for a successful candidate in the Chicagoland area. The specific hiring rate within the posted range will depend on the candidate's qualifications and prior experience.
