Job Summary

A shift employee that is responsible for the safe, reliable, and efficient operation and maintenance activities for the Harrison County Energy Center. The facility is a 550 MW natural gas power station in Marshall, Texas.

 

Essential Duties/ Responsibilities

Ability to work with other assigned personnel in the performance of all shift activities in a professional manner. Perform the required activities of the control room and roving operator watch station, which includes the operation, maintenance, and performance monitoring of all equipment; test and treatment of plant water chemistry; creation and maintenance of plant records; extensive use of personal computers and distributed control systems; electrical and instrumentation troubleshooting; etc. Maintain high professional, personnel, and equipment safety and environmental consciousness while adhering to compliance standards and practices. Maximize plant efficiency and profits without degrading personnel and equipment safety practices, environmental requirements, or concerns for the long-term operation of the plant. Ensure all environmental permit conditions are consistently complied with. Perform other assigned independent, team or shift activities that include but are not limited to; industrial safety program activities; routine maintenance tasks; housekeeping and general facility preservation; and whatever other activity you are directed to perform. Take the lead in assigned maintenance activities in the areas of mechanical, electrical, instrumentation and controls, and warehousing due to specialty training and experience. Interface with the Plant Computerized Maintenance Management System (SAP) which requires proficiency in all modules; (1) Work order module; (2) Purchasing module; (3) Inventory Control module; (4) Timekeeping module. Assist in developing and defining operational policies and procedures as requested. Assist in identifying and implementing plant or profit improvement projects. Assist in developing the annual budget and training plan for plant operations by providing the needs of the plant using your specialized skill or training. Respond quickly to plant conditions or requirements which may involve extended and/or abnormal work hours. Cross train in the required plant disciplines of operations and maintenance, including Electrical; Instrumentation and Controls; and Mechanical skills. Assist in the selection, administration and oversight of contractors, which support plant activities. Examples include but are not limited to: electrical, mechanical, and gas maintenance activities, janitorial, building and grounds, predicative maintenance, HVAC, etc. Operate company vehicles including trucks, forklifts and other mobile equipment. Perform plant housekeeping functions. Will involve work with OSHA classified hazardous materials

 

Working Conditions

Power Plant Environment-Work both inside and outside in all temperatures and climate conditions in accordance with Heat Stress procedures. Perform duties around large rotating equipment, energized electrical equipment in high noise areas, and/or in confined places, on elevations in excess of 100 feet, or from platforms at heights of 5 feet or greater. Climb stairways, ladders, and work from aerial devices. Work irregular or rotating shifts and respond to emergency callouts.

 

Minimum Requirements

Associate degree in Process Technology, Power Plant Technology, Instrumentation/Controls, Industrial Electronics or related field     OR     2 years’ equivalent industrial experience in Instrumentation/Controls, Industrial Electronics, or Process Technician Valid Driver’s License Must be able to read and comprehend extensive written procedures for operation and maintenance of the plant.

 

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in power plant operations or maintenance in gas and/or steam turbines with a detailed overall knowledge of power plant equipment and its operation, including theory. Significant experience or ability to be versatile in the use of personal computers and numerous software applications. Five (5) years’ work experience in instrumentation or ICE (Instrumentation Controls Electrical)

 

 

 

Additional KSAs

Qualify and maintain qualification as a control room and roving operator. Work extended hours when required. Complete plant qualification program to the level of Control Room Operator. Productively work independently and as an overall integral plant staff team member. Work outdoors in all types of weather. Tag Out/Lock Out equipment per NRG’s Tag Out/Lock Out procedure

Must be capable of performing work requiring safety equipment including switching suits, fall protection, chemical suits, goggles, respirators, and any other equipment identified for the safe operation and maintenance of the plant.
