PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

The Fiber Technician is responsible for safely operating and maintaining the Dyneema fiber production facility to produce Dyneema fiber, of the highest possible quality, in the most cost-effective manner.

This position requires interaction with other technicians, control room operator, shift coordinator, and supervision within the fiber production organization.  Teamwork is critical to operating equipment efficiently.

Work safely and follow all applicable procedures and policies.  Abides by Avient Protective Materials procedures/policies regarding security, inclusive of:  employee security agreements; use of non-disclosure agreements with outside parties; control of Avient Protective Materials intellectual property limited to a “need to know” only basis; no unauthorized use of cell phones, cameras, computers or Avient Protective Materials property; reporting security threats and incidents; proper control of Avient Protective Materials property and keys. Set up, operate, monitor, adjust and clean all process equipment required for producing Dyneema fiber, secondary stage, in accordance with applicable work instructions, Job Safety Analysis procedures, recipes, and standard operating procedures. Assist with doffing P-oven, and perform as safety watch when applicable in accordance with work instructions, Job Safety Analysis procedures, recipes, and standard operating procedures. Operate and troubleshoot processes and equipment specific to the secondary stage of yarn production.  Perform safety watch duties, as necessary, in the primary stage of yarn production as well as provide support to the same area such as aiding in moving spin blocks to and from the mezzanine, labeling and moving drums, etc. Monitor utility systems as designated. Take samples and determine properties of the produced intermediate and finished products.  Maintain records of operating parameters and raw materials used to produce products. Move, measure, maintain inventory and store raw, intermediate and finished products.    Assist in the training and guidance of other team members. Perform routine inspections of hazardous waste storage facilities, logging required data. Comply with all job-related regulatory and training requirements in a timely manner. Actively promotes team involvement in area.  Uses group diversity and individual strengths to positively contribute to the profitability of the company and maintain harmonious working relationships. Responsible for compliance with relevant laws, regulatory requirements, recipes, SOP’s, and other related documentation and activities.  Ensures Company guidelines and policies relating to quality, safety, housekeeping and cost effectiveness are met. Perform other duties as assigned.

            Authorities

     n Authorized to approve work permits per details included in DYNPRO SHE DYN 026. If so authorized, employee must maintain necessary refresher training to participate in these activities

This position involves work with (supervision of) and/or handling hazardous materials and waste at the Avient Protective Materials (Greenville, NC) work site.  The Fiber Technician II has the appropriate qualifications to read, understand, apply and communicate written and verbal information regarding handling and managing hazardous wastes.  Training is required within six months of assuming duty, and once a year thereafter.  Responsible for proper handling, documentation, inspection and transporting around the facility of hazardous wastes and may also be responsible for responding to emergencies involving hazardous waste.

COMPLEXITY OF THE JOB:

Manual dexterity with manual operations has significant influence on quality and output of the secondary fiber processes. 

KNOWLEDGE AND EDUCATIONAL LEVEL:

High school diploma and at least 1 year of experience in a manufacturing setting, preferably in a fibers production environment and/or equivalent military technical experience or training.

REQUIRED LEVEL OF EXPERIENCES:

Knowledge of appropriate safety procedures. Knowledge of scheduling procedures. Knowledge of changeovers/cleaning/set-up, work instructions
