Duties Description Professional Land Surveyor 1 Job DutiesUnder the direction of the Regional Design Engineer, the incumbent will supervise the Right of Way Mapping and/or Land Surveying sections, including:* Supervise, manage and direct work assignments for staff within the ROW mapping and survey sections.* Use professional judgement to make complex highway boundary and property line determinations.* Direct staff on legal issues regarding Highway Law and property acquisition.* Reach out to other public and private organizations for highway and mapping information.* Oversee preparation of Right of Way Taking Maps and Approve & Stamp Right of Way Taking Maps.* Provide direction to survey group in preparation of survey reports and collection of field survey data.* Ensure all safety procedures are followed by staff performing field work.Responsibilities include serving in a management role within the Incident Command System to support the Department’s response to regional and statewide emergency situations.Other specific duties to be discussed at interview. For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title may be filled via a non-competitive appointment, which means no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the title for which they apply.At a future date, it is expected employees hired under NY HELPS will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to compete in an examination. Employees will then be afforded with all of the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of New York State.
