Position Summary:
The Advancement Services Specialist will be responsible for fulfilling report and data requests for the Division of University Advancement; managing data clean-up and maintenance projects; data analysis; and providing CRM training and technical assistance. Reporting to the Director of Advancement Services, this role will interface daily with members of the University Advancement and IRT (The Division of Information Resources & Technology) teams to assess reporting and data needs, primarily focusing on data dictionary management (including the development of user manuals, policy, and procedure documentation), data integration, process automation, design and delivery of end-user training, and comprehensive campaign support.
The selected candidate will play an integral role in the institution’s comprehensive fundraising campaign and will also serve as a leader on a cross-unit team (which includes a consultant) investigating the adoption and successful implementation of a new database platform.
Responsibilities:
Collaborate with the Director of Advancement Services, IRT colleagues, and the Division of University Advancement to develop new reports and modify existing data reports. Collaborate with the Director of Advancement Services and IRT colleagues in fulfilling, managing, and prioritizing data requests, solicitation and donor event lists, and ad hoc data reports by the due date or according to the production calendar. Log and track all incoming data requests to ensure deadline compliance. Identify and manage data clean-up projects and duplicate records. Audit donor profile data regularly to ensure accuracy and proper formatting of constituent data. Provide in-depth data analysis to better understand constituent behavior, build or improve data segmentation strategies, and measure the effectiveness of donor solicitation, acquisition, and retention efforts. Assist with University Advancement’s annual participation in peer benchmarking and other data surveys including but not limited to EAB, AAMC, CASE, etc. Manage import of third-party data, such as iWave and DonorSearch batch screenings. Collaborate with the Coordinator of Prospect Research and Management to identify and analyze prospect pools for major gift initiatives and the comprehensive campaign. Understand, generate, and analyze data to identify opportunities for new fundraising efforts and document business processes and workflows. Serve as point person for University Advancement members on database utilization, including but not limited to creating and conducting end-user training and materials. Assist in developing processes and tools (queries, reports, and inherent diagnostic tools within CRM) that allow data quality to be proactively monitored on a weekly, monthly, quarterly, or annual basis. Attend certain distinguished events and other donor related functions and activities occurring at night/weekends when necessary. Other responsibilities as needed and assigned.Qualifications:
Required:
Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of three (3) or more years of work experience in Advancement Services and/or fundraising operations in a higher education or non-profit environment with an emphasis on data management and analysis. Strong understanding of fundraising principles, donor stewardship, and compliance with relevant laws and regulations. Proficiency in relevant software and technologies used in Advancement Services, such as database management tools and reporting software. Experience with SQL and third-party reporting tools such as Tableau and Cognos reporting. Working knowledge of online databases used to research individual and institutional donors (DonorSearch, iWave, Guidestar, etc.). Understanding of and appreciation for the institutional culture and shared goals and vision of Rowan University. Demonstrated ability to work effectively on multifunctional teams; ability to work on multiple projects and meet tight deadlines; and ability to work effectively with large, diverse groups of clients to meet their information needs. Experience with development/fundraising concepts and techniques. A customer-service and detail-oriented perspective. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with colleagues, donors, board members, and other stakeholders. Ability to maintain discretion when working with highly confidential/sensitive information.Preferred:
A master’s degree in a relevant field such as business administration, nonprofit management, higher education administration, or a related discipline. Mastery of Abilla Millenium and/or Blackbaud’s RENXT with a minimum of three (3) years of Raiser’s Edge database working experience and professional certification. Experience in leading and managing change within a team or department (displaying adaptability and resilience in a dynamic and evolving higher education landscape). Familiarity with higher education philanthropy, trends, and CASE standards.Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
