Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of patients with psychiatric and substance use disorders? UPMC Mercy is seeking a dedicated and compassionate full-time nurse to join our Emergency Referral Center (ERC) team!

About the Emergency Referral Center (ERC)

The ERC is an extension of UPMC Mercy’s Emergency Department, providing a secure setting for patient evaluations by skilled clinicians. It is a locked unit which provides a safe environment for patients seeking treatment for acute and/or chronic behavioral health or substance abuse disorders.  Our team determines the appropriate level of care and facilitates admissions, transfers, or discharges in collaboration with emergency department staff. We also assist with involuntary commitments and offer guidance on alternatives to hospitalization when clinically indicated.

Graduate nurses can earn up to $10,000 and experienced nurses (1+ years of nursing work history) can earn up to $15,000 paid out to you in a one lump sum within your first 90 days when you make a two-year work commitment!  Career Growth: Our ERC team offers a fantastic opportunity to advance your career and continue your education in behavioral health. Flexible Shifts: Primarily work 12-hour shifts with 7pm and 7am start times. Rotating weekends are also required. Earn an extra $2.00 more per hour for overnight shifts! Qualifications Previous work history or completed clinical rotation in psychiatric, substance use disorders or emergency medicine is preferred. Responsibilities:

Demonstrates a passion for developing others, enthusiastically and expertly precepts students, graduate nurses and new hires. Analyzes clinical and behavioral situations, identifying learning opportunities to improve patient care practices. Formulates daily goals and a plan of care for patients that involves the patient as partner and considers the individual needs of the patient in a holistic manner. Practices solid communication skills and is able to articulate and translate the patient’s condition to other care providers and to negotiate and make recommendations for changes in patient care and unit practices. Patient documentation is comprehensive and promotes communication between caregivers. Demonstrates critical thinking in the identification of clinical, social, safety, psychological and spiritual issues for the patient care within an episode of care. Incorporates national professional organization as well as business unit and health system’s goals to improve patient safety, quality and satisfaction of the patient experience in daily work. Creates a caring and compassionate patient focused experience by building healing relationships with patients, families and colleagues. Builds and mends relationships among colleagues within the framework of a healthy workplace. Role models keen cultural awareness including preventing and addressing horizontal violence and impairment. Maintains a conscious balance between work and personal life through prioritization and delegation of responsibilities. Identifies opportunities for clinical quality as well as workplace improvement.
