UPMC Hamot is hiring a Professional Staff Nurse to join the TNICU!

We are looking for an experienced, caring, compassionate, team-oriented nurse with a passion for learning who excels in critical thinking!

The TNICU is a 16-bed unit on the second floor of the patient care tower.  The exceptional care provided in this unit contributes to UPMC Hamot’s certification as a Level II Trauma Center and Comprehensive Stroke Center. Some of our specific patient populations include:

      Trauma       Surgical        Kidney Transplants       Neurosurgery        Hemorrhagic Strokes requiring Neurointervention

At least 2 years of ICU nursing experience required.

Title and Salary will be determined based upon education and experience.

Overview: The Professional Staff Nurse, a Registered Nurse, plays a crucial role in the care delivery team. They set the standards for care quality and are accountable for nursing care provision. This role involves managing patient care for groups of patients and their families, using independent judgment, communication, and teamwork. Key aspects of the role include leadership, partnership, collaboration, and supervision. The nurse builds and maintains collaborative relationships with physicians, other healthcare providers, patients, and families to achieve optimal patient outcomes. Additionally, they show a strong commitment to the community and the nursing profession.

Responsibilities:

Relationship Building: Maintains productive internal and external relationships, demonstrating accountability, enthusiasm, and commitment. Understands cultural differences and promotes healthy relationships. Balances work and personal life, models safe work hours, and reports safety hazards. Education and Teaching: Applies adult learning principles in teaching patients, families, students, and new staff. Provides detailed guidance for care transitions and supports the development of new staff and students. Encourages open dialogue and continuous improvement. Patient Care: Uses the nursing process within Relationship-Based Care to create a healing environment. Sets daily goals and plans of care with patients, considering their holistic needs. Demonstrates critical thinking and effective communication, ensuring comprehensive documentation and alignment with safety and quality goals. Professional Development: Engages in professional development to enhance practice quality. Participates in shared governance, goal setting, and supports change processes. Acts as a full partner on the care team, adapting to change and improving patient care. Quality Improvement: Participates in quality improvement efforts, identifies opportunities for improvement, and takes responsibility for enhancing patient satisfaction. Utilizes research and evidence-based practice to improve clinical care and influences patient care plans.
