UPMC Hamot, a Magnet-designated facility in Erie, PA, is seeking a dedicated Professional Staff Nurse (Casual) to support our dynamic 5 South unit. Title and salary will be determined based upon education and nursing experience.

Job Summary:

The Professional Staff Nurse is a Registered Nurse responsible for delivering high-quality care, managing patient activities, and collaborating with the healthcare team. The role involves leadership, patient care, and fostering strong relationships with patients, families, and other healthcare providers.

Unit Overview:

5 South is a 46-bed medical-telemetry unit specializing in cardiac care, including conditions like Coronary Artery Disease, Acute Myocardial Infarction, Heart Failure, and Arrhythmias. It also cares for patients with medical conditions such as Pneumonia, Renal Failure, and Chest Pain. The unit provides telemetry and intermediate care for patients post-cardiac procedures, offering a supportive environment for both new graduates and experienced nurses to develop expertise in cardiac care.

Responsibilities:

Demonstrates proficiency in adult learning principles (and/or pediatric teaching when applicable), effectively teaching patients, families, students, and new staff. Ensures thorough patient education throughout the care process, from admission through transition to other care settings. Supports the development of students and colleagues, may act as a preceptor. Fosters an open environment of continuous learning by seeking and acting on feedback to improve clinical practice. Takes responsibility for professional development, enhancing both nursing practice and patient care. Actively participates in shared governance, unit goal-setting, and supports initiatives aimed at improving care and the practice environment. Collaborates effectively as a team member, offering assistance and support to colleagues when needed. Responds to changes in the healthcare environment and demonstrates flexibility in adapting to new practices. Cultivates productive relationships with colleagues and patients through accountability, enthusiasm, and commitment. Recognizes cultural differences and promotes healthy interpersonal relationships. Prioritizes work-life balance and models time management and healthy lifestyle practices. Applies the nursing process within the framework of Relationship-Based Care, developing individualized plans of care that involve patients as active partners. Incorporates a holistic approach to care, addressing clinical, social, safety, psychological, and spiritual factors. Demonstrates strong communication skills, advocating for patients and collaborating with the healthcare team to improve patient outcomes. Ensures comprehensive documentation that fosters clear communication among caregivers. Incorporates national professional standards and health system goals to enhance patient safety, satisfaction, and quality. Strives to create a compassionate, patient-centered experience. Actively contributes to quality improvement efforts within the department or unit. Identifies opportunities for improvement and collaborates with colleagues and management to enhance patient care and service quality. Utilizes research and evidence-based practices to drive improvements in clinical care. Engages in discussions during multidisciplinary rounds and uses research findings to inform clinical decisions and patient care strategies.
