About the Department

The Pritzker School of Molecular Engineering (PME) was established in May 2019 and evolved from the Institute for Molecular Engineering, which was founded in 2011. The PME integrates science and engineering to address global challenges from the molecular level up. The PME’s rigorous academic and research programs are made possible through the University of Chicago’s unique partnership with Argonne National Laboratory. The Pritzker School of Molecular Engineering is the first new school at the University of Chicago in three decades and the first school in the nation dedicated to molecular engineering. In the next phase of growth as a School, the PME will continue to expand its team of world-class faculty researchers and empower students from diverse backgrounds to collaborate with faculty in cutting-edge facilities. The PME aims to bring solutions for urgent societal problems to the forefront, while training the next generation of scientific leaders and entrepreneurs.


Job Summary

The Program Coordinator for Education and Workforce Programs at the Chicago Quantum Exchange (CQE) will be responsible for supporting the day-to-day operational needs of the CQE education, workforce development, and outreach programs, including administrative support for the Open Quantum Initiative, Boeing Quantum Creators Prize, and public outreach activities This role will ensure the CQE education programs and events run smoothly. This role will assist with special projects, student recruiting activities and the development of metrics as instructed by the Director of Education and Workforce Programs. CQE collaborates with many other research areas and this position is typically the initial point of contact.

Responsibilities

Supports special projects and events relating to education and workforce development, including: facility reservations and configurations, travel arrangements, audio/visual needs, building access, etc.Manages project and event budgets (adherence to budgetary guidelines, negotiating services and fees, managing vendor relationships, and invoicing).Facilitates, drafts and ensures dissemination of quantum education and workforce development event communication and announcements across the CQE and PME through listervs, emails, flyers, websites, newsletters, and social media.Assists with evaluating the overall impact and performance of relevant programs and events.Supports recruitment for and administration of the Boeing Quantum Creators Prize and Boeing Quantum Creators Prize Symposium.Manages payments, reimbursements, and travel arrangements for the Open Quantum Initiative, including acting as point of contact for administrators at host institutions.Represents CQE at public outreach events and education events to support recruitment for and awareness of CQE education and outreach programs.Supervises undergraduate student workers; collaborates with Director to identify, assign, and monitor student progress on projects.Uses general understanding and experience to administer the delivery of services to program participants and/or beneficiaries.Interacts with faculty, researchers and staff for committee work or information.Performs other related work as needed.


Minimum Qualifications

Education:

Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.


Work Experience:

Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through < 2 years of work experience in a related job discipline.

Preferred Qualifications

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in STEM, education, or related field.

Experience:

At least one year of project management or education experience in a fast-paced, large non-profit, public, or private sector organization supporting an executive-level individual or team.At least one year of experience working in STEM education or outreach with some experience in event or project coordination.

Technical Skills or Knowledge:

Strong computer skills, including word processing, database management, and spreadsheet skills.Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

Working Conditions 

Flexible hybrid office/remote environment.Occasional extended work hours and some weekend days.
