Job Description
The NYC Department of Buildings is responsible for ensuring the safe and lawful use of buildings and properties by enforcing the NYC Construction Codes, Energy Code and Zoning Resolution. The Office of Human Resources & Employee Experience (HREX) is responsible for ensuring the Department complies with applicable labor and employment laws and City and Agency rules and policies. The unit provides guidance to managers and employees on a variety of topics including recruitment, employment, civil service, job and organizational design, labor relations, youth programs, benefits, wellness, performance evaluations, salary administration, timekeeping, and time and leave administration.
Please note: The standard work schedule for this position is 9am to 5pm. However, there will be days in which you will be required to work outside of those hours. For example, the Youth Leadership Council and DOB Scholars programming require a schedule from 11am to 7pm at least 1 day per week for 22 weeks out of the year; while orientation days require a schedule from 8:30am to 4:30 pm. Job fairs or community event workday schedules also vary based on opportunity. Notice of schedule adjustments are given in advance to plan accordingly.
Under direction, the Program Coordinator will:
- Develops relationships with youth, educational institutions, City Agencies, and other organizations.
- Prepares presentations and information sessions about the DOB and its student opportunities for stakeholders.
- Facilitates sessions, orientations, professional development workshops, and other activities which relate to student/youth opportunities at the Department of Buildings.
- Attends career fairs, community events, and recruitment events and hiring halls.
- Coordinates internships, externships, fellowships, outreach, recruitment, and partnership building initiatives.
- Manages, tracks, monitors, and evaluates educational internships and other initiatives focused on youth engagement.
- Develops surveys and forms for recruitment and program feedback.
- Performs timekeeping for interns, externs, and fellows.
- Provides professional development consultations and career coaching upon request to interns, externs, and fellows.
- Reviews student applications for programs.
- Assesses applicants to ensure minimum qualifications are met for unit placement.
- Circulates resumes and cover letters of applicants to hiring teams, tracks hiring team’s interview selections, prepares conditional offers, processes applicant information, and coordinates new hire start date with hiring team and other units.
- Utilizes Jobs NYC, SmartRecruiters, and NYCAPS for hiring process of interns and ensures DOB payroll pre-employment paperwork is accurate for intern candidates.
- Provides support for social media posts, and designs flyers and presentation materials.
Required Skills
- has experience working with youth, specifically at the high school and college level.
- strong written, verbal, and public speaking skills.
- has proficiency with Canva, Microsoft Forms, Excel, and Outlook.
- has led meetings or workshops.
Qualifications
1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
2. High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above.
