Program Coordinator

The Study Storage Coordinator/ Assistant Registrar supports the increasing levels of curricular activity by a large number of university departments within the museum and the stewardship needs of a growing permanent collection. The Study Storage Coordinator/ Assistant Registrar will help to coordinate and implement the museum’s active teaching program by researching and selecting collection objects and facilitating instruction within study storage classrooms. Reporting to the Curator of Academic Initiatives and the Associate Registrar, this position will assist engagement with object-based study in designated study rooms, as well as through digital tools such as the Museum’s collections management system, The Museum System (TMS) and the Museum web site collections page. This position will also provide oversight to the study storage areas including monitoring all visits and maintaining proper standards of care.

The Study Storage Coordinator/ Assistant Registrar assists in the organization and overall coordination of class visits to study storage; including compiling course checklists in the TMS database; coordinating lists, expectations and logistics with the Academic Initiatives department, curators, and the relevant faculty; gathering artwork from storage for class, explaining study room guidelines and proctoring classes, and returning artwork to storage when finished. The position is solely responsible for coordinating object movement and tracking location changes. The position is also responsible for coordination of subsequent student visits for research purposes. The position also includes a component related to the recording of data and its subsequent analysis in regard to the statistics surrounding these classes. The Study Storage Coordinator/ Assistant Registrar may also coordinate visits with outside researchers as necessary.

 

Academic Initiatives

This public facing position will monitor classes and appointments in all of storage facilities, engaging with visitors in a professional and courteous manner. Assess course syllabi, make object selections, and research artworks in preparation for class visits. Properly set up display artworks for appointments in all of the viewing spaces and remove at the close of these appointments. Facilitates viewing and discussion sessions for undergraduate and graduate classes and individual study appointments. Work with the curators and other staff to schedule, coordinate and document all non-staff visitors, including faculty, students, and outside scholars, to art storage areas. Provide instructions to visitors regarding study storage guidelines and policies at the start of class and study appointments. Responsible for the safe handling and movement of artwork in Study Storage classrooms and all storage areas. Create a digital log of study storage visitors and classes and track use of artworks accordingly in museum database system.

 

Registrar

Assist with planning, coordinating logistical needs, and tracking movement of art in the collections management system. Assist Preparators, Registrars, Curators and Photographer with pulling and putting away artwork in storage and helping with any art handling needs. Assist Associate Registrar with processing image files from photographer and sharing the collection online. Responsible for the care and management of the Nasher Museum’s analog image media (transparencies, slides, negatives, etc.) Process third-party image requests and seek copyright permissions for collection objects. Request non-exclusive licenses. Provide image caption information. Assist Registrars with other duties as needed.

 

Requirements and Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in in art history, arts administration, museum studies or related field Minimum of two years’ work experience Experience handling works of art Knowledge of standard museum policy and procedures according to AAM standards Strong organization skills and ability to multi-task and meet deadlines Ability to work independently and as part of a team Excellent computer skills, including experience with collections database systems, preferably TMS

 

Preferred

Master’s degree in art history, arts administration, museum studies or related field Experience teaching in the museum or classroom; with university students preferred Knowledge of professional good practices in museum registration techniques, both manual and electronic

 

Minimum Qualifications

Education

Work requires analytical, communications and organizational skills generally acquired through completion of a bachelor'sdegree program.

Experience

Work requires one year of experience in program administration or OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE involving academic, instructional or counseling activities to acquire skills necessary to plan, coordinate and implement a variety of program activities and events.
