Under direction, plans, organizes, coordinates and guides day-to-day activities related to the operations of the RWJMS Office of Research. The primary purpose of the position is to provide support for a broad range of assigned projects, programs, initiatives, committees and task forces. Takes the lead on short- and long- term projects and serves as the primary liaison for all research administration of the Office of Research. Cultivate and maintain relationships with contacts both within and external to Rutgers. In conjunction with the Senior Associate Dean for Research, is responsible for the development and implementation of appropriate business management, planning and strategies to improve existing programs, and assist with development of new programs and initiatives.
Among the key duties of this position are the following: Coordinates various research activities, programs, committees and task forces for faculty and students. This also includes the Summer Research Program for medical students (Fellowship Option, Training Option and Clinician Research Experiential Summer Training [CREST]), the Distinction in Research Program and the Students Interested in Research (SIR) group. Coordinates meetings and program activities, including application, review and award processes. Handles payments of students’ fellowship stipends, mentee-mentor match, lectures, symposia and other events, data management and reporting. Assists with preparation of grant proposals and funding opportunities to support research programs. Provides internal administration and consultative services to professional staff, program directors and faculty, with respect to planning, developing and carrying out proposals and objectives. Assists with strategic planning, development and implementation of new programs and activities. In conjunction with the Senior Associate Dean for Research (SADR), plans, develops and implements appropriate business management, planning and strategies to improve existing programs and processes, and for development and implementation of new programs, initiatives and systems, including those emanating from the research and education strategic roadmap and strategic plan. Establishes and implements short- and long- range organizational goals, objectives and operating procedures; monitors and evaluates program effectiveness; effects changes required for operational improvement. Provides executive level confidential administrative support to the SADR. Responsible for the development of a broad range of internal and external activities and initiatives. Functions as the principal liaison between the SADR and the faculty, staff, students, divisions of the Medical School and other administrative units of the University. Maintains calendar for the SADR; coordinates events and projects, correspondence, communications and announcements. Organizes and expedites workflow to comply with deadlines and priorities. Coordinates Research Office faculty and staff evaluation process; provides administrative assistance to the ADR as needed. Coordinates schedules with research and program teams to ensure efficient performance of the Office of Research. Supports the SADR in their administrative responsibilities including scheduling, travel arrangements, expense reimbursements, requisitions, professional correspondence, hiring, evaluations, resignations, and grant activities, when applicable.
