Program Coordinator
The Program Director works with Center Directors, Prof. Alan Wiseman (Vanderbilt) and Craig Volden (University of Virginia), in advancing the key objectives of the Center—especially on matters pertaining to lawmaking effectiveness in American state legislatures. In line with the Center’s strategic plan, primary responsibilities include: helping expand and diversify the community of scholars and amount of scholarly research focused on lawmaking effectiveness in American state legislatures (coordinating research affiliates, organizing speakers and conferences at Vanderbilt University); communicating the work of the Center to target audiences (communications and marketing plan, media relations, engaging with target audiences); working with web developers and consultants to design web-based interfaces for distributing Center outputs on lawmaking effectiveness in state legislatures to a wide audience of academics and practitioners; helping increase the use of Center outputs (interacting with media who cover legislative politics in the American states, state legislators, and their staff); helping in developing and implementing orientation, informational, and/or training programs for state legislators and legislative staff, drawing on Center outputs; helping in fundraising (grant reporting; working with university development teams; growing donor networks including foundations, corporations, and individuals); coordinating internal administrative operations between the Center and other programs at Vanderbilt University (working with staff in areas such as communications, information technology, development, event hosting).
