The Program Coordinator for UM Study Abroad promotes and coordinates activities for UM study abroad programs. This includes managing student recruitment, advising outbound and inbound students, application, enrollment, and pre-departure orientation; program operations; and program assessment and evaluation.
Specific Responsibilities:
Coordinates logistics and administration of study abroad programs
Assists in recruitment, marketing, and effective execution of programs abroad.
Assists with student tracking in program databases; compiles & analyzes data; prepares reports
Coordinates the collection, analysis & reporting of required information for surveys, review documents, public information documents, etc
Analyzes evaluation data from instructors, students, participants, etc. to assist in program/project development and updates
Collects and tracks student forms and assists students in completing application requirements
Advises students regarding study abroad program selection, admissions, academic, career and development matters
Reads & evaluates admissions files and participates in candidate selection.
Interviews and screens applicants
Provides support to Global Ambassador program housed in Study Abroad
Assists in creating marketing materials in print and multimedia
Assist in development and uploading of website content for Study Abroad and UGlobal websites
Coordinates orientation sessions and assists in the production of orientation guides, materials, and other resources
Incorporates social media and networking into program/project aspects as appropriate
Strengthens partnerships with internal and external units by defining, promoting and marketing benefits of participation and involvement in programs
Creates and nurtures relationships with organizations to develop a network of enthusiastic organizations engaged via active participation in the success of program/project.
Supports the office in development and implementation of program courses, activities, and materials
Troubleshoots problems; performs vendor/account research as needed; obtains additional information or provides instruction & guidance by phone, US- or e- mail from customers/vendors
Coordinates programming, educational, student, alumni, workshops, meetings, etc. including speakers and agendas
Develops plans and arranges meetings, workshops, events, etc. designed to exchange information, promote research objectives, and to build internal and external relationships within UM
Ensures that event details including communication, venues, presenters, travel arrangements, materials, refreshments and technology are arranged and completed in an appropriate and timely manner
Assists the Director and Associate Director, as needed, in researching new customized or faculty-led programs in alignment with UM study abroad mission
Adheres to program/project mission, values, guidelines, and policies
Reviews programs/projects to increase efficiencies to support growth
Performs other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma; Bachelor's in international studies, international education, or related field preferred
Minimum 1 year of relevant work experience; 3 years of professional work experience in study abroad and/or international program management and administration preferred
Prior experience studying, living, or working abroad
Experience working with university staff, students, and faculty
Demonstrated ability to successfully manage international initiatives for a student audience
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Excellent interpersonal skills
Intermediate knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, email, and database software programs
Well-developed organizational skills and the ability to independently prioritize and handle multiple tasks, turning general instructions into specific action steps
Ability to quickly and effortlessly change direction based on new/changing priorities
Proven problem solving skills and attention to detail
Preferred Qualifications:
Excellent computer skills, including in-depth knowledge of spreadsheets, word processing, databases and presentation software packages
Experience with Terra Dotta/Studio Abroad software
Foreign language skills
Familiarity with regional and national education abroad networks and resources
A relevant combination of education and experience may be considered
