Program Coordinator for Cancer Research Training and Education Core

The UVA Comprehensive Cancer Center (UVACCC) seeks a program coordinator to facilitate and support education, training, and mentorship activities. This position will provide assistance to the Associate Director for CRTEC to achieve the education mission of the center. This position is critical to UVACCC’s National Cancer Institute designation.

Responsibilities:
This position is responsible for assisting the Associate Director for CRTEC in overseeing, developing, and integrating the UVACCC's training, mentoring and education initiatives into programmatic efforts in accordance with National Cancer Institute requirements. Providing programmatic and administrative support for the activities of CRTEC includes:

Serve as a liaison between the UVACCC and all trainees and mentors to initiate, develop, and advocate an outstanding trainee experience. Trainees include K-12 students, undergraduates, graduate students, postdocs, residents and fellows and junior faculty.

Work with the Associate Director for CRTEC to create a pipeline program that will facilitate the submission of education/training/career development grants (e.g., F and K awards) by individual trainees, as well as institutional awards and their progress reports (e.g., T32, R25, and P20 awards).

Develop and monitor formalized mentoring and career development programs for trainees at all levels (education/training/career development/grant writing workshops), including event planning and organization.

Create metrics, collect and disseminate data as it relates to cancer education and training (metrics of success include publications, coursework, funding history, outreach activities and career outcomes, pre and post activity satisfaction surveys)

Formally assess the effectiveness of the education, training, and mentoring experiences in the UVACCC.

Coordinate the UVACCC trainee fellowship and travel award program.

Manage the STRIVE-C summer program for visiting faculty, the DICR summer program for visiting undergraduates and the Postbaccalaureate program.

Coordinate media and website updates regarding trainee activities

Required Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor's degree

Experience: Two years of experience.  An advanced degree may be considered in lieu of experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Masters or PhD degree in biomedical sciences, public health, education, or related field  

Demonstrated experience in mentoring and grant writing a plus.

PhDs with interest in administering training and education are encouraged to apply.

Physical Demands
This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
