College/Department Highlights

The University Honors Program (UHP) draws ambitious, motivated undergraduates to Utah State University (USU) and increases student success in both two- and four-year programs across the state. Currently serving ~700 students, the UHP maps practical experience, communication, and collaboration onto any major, developing the marketable skills students need to become global leaders—and helping to maximize USU’s impact on the future of our state, nation, and world.

Honors student-success rates are notably positive. Honors students are 1.6 times more likely than others to graduate on time from USU: 84.3% of BA/BS-seeking honors students graduate within six years, a higher rate by 30.5 points than the 53.8% of non-honors students graduating within six years from four-year programs. The program is working to increase access and raise honors enrollment over the next five years in support of USU’s overall student-success rates.

The UHP supports these exceptional student-success rates with a high-impact curriculum and a demonstrated record of working effectively and thoughtfully across USU’s entire academic enterprise and range of student-support services. In the past ten years, the program has established best practices for the curricular integration of experiential learning—including undergraduate research, internships, leadership training, alumni mentoring, and community- and global-engagement—and supported four key learning outcomes: research and discovery, critical thinking and self-reflection, clear and effective communication, and collaboration and community engagement. The UHP has created blueprints for experiential learning accessible to all USU students and thus attained the de facto status of ideas lab, incubator, and accelerator, where academic innovations are scaled to make broader impacts.
