Program Coordinator - Orthopaedic Trauma

Overview
The program coordinator for trauma service provides support in the inpatient and outpatient Orthopaedic treting areas and operating room, under the direction of the designated Orthopaedic Surgeon(s), and functions as an integral member of the Orthopaedic trauma patient care team. The program coordinator works closely with the supervising physicians to provide clinic and patient support, patient education, development and facilitation of treatment plans and assist with in office procedures. The program coordinator is also responsible for carrying out other clinic duties and clerical responsibilities as detailed below, supporting clinic operations and delivering high-quality, safe, patient-centered care in collaboration with a supervising physician and the clinical care team.
Responsibilities
* Engaging in daily trauma conference, diligently maintaining trauma lists, ensuring comprehensive surveillance of services across various inpatient specialties
* Relay orders given via medical providers for patients entering the hospital system due to emergent conditions that have transpired overnight.
* Assist in coordinating timely clinical review and scheduling for trauma-related diagnoses.
* Coordinate with other services to facilitate OR clearance for inpatients on the surgical pending list
* Effectively coordinate, maintain, and organize the surgery list for patients pending surgery, ensuring optimal patient care and operational efficiency within your healthcare facility.
* Acts as a liaison coordinating care for those involved in surgical planning helping to ensure optimal patient outcomes for those requiring a series of surgeries among multiple providers
* Works with D-H Insurance Information Coordinators to coordinate physician peer to peer phone calls.
* Conducts pre and post operative outreach to trauma patients to enhance their surgical journey
* Performs specialty casting, wound care, and dressing changes as ordered by surgical specialists
* Provide education and support to patients and their families regarding treatment plans, discharge instructions, and post-discharge care.
* Collaborate with trauma program leadership to monitor and improve trauma care processes and outcomes, participating in quality improvement initiatives.
* Assist in trauma registry data collection, analysis, and reporting to support research and performance improvement efforts
* Assists with computerized order entry of X-Rays, MRI’s (Magnetic Resonance Imaging), CT Scans (Computerized Tomography) and other diagnostic tests and/or labs as directed.
* Maintains or assists in ordering clinical supplies in designated rooms/clinical work areas. Maintains the cleanliness and general appearance of examination and treatment areas. Cleans, disinfects, sterilizes and maintains equipment and instruments.
* Applies braces or other assistive devices, performs cast removal, suture, staples removal and provides simple wound care. Performs patient education for durable medical equipment to include training on use of assistive devices.
* Completes assigned in basket duties pertaining to preoperative, postoperative, home health, return to work sports, physical therapy and occupational therapy questions.
* Assists orthopaedic surgeons in the operating room.
* Educates and trains clinical staff with all tasks inherent within the role to include: onboarding, in-basket messaging, pre-clinic optimization, quarterly competencies and clinic safety.
* Performs other duties as required or assigned.
Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree, or the equivalent in education and experience required.
* Proven experience in trauma patient care, preferably in an acute care setting.
* Strong clinical and critical thinking skills.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse healthcare teams.
* Knowledge of trauma care protocols, emergency procedures, and regulatory requirements.
* Proficiency in electronic health records (EHR) and trauma registry software.
* Commitment to patient-centered care and continuous quality improvement.
* OTC/ROT certification required with proficiency in specialty casting
Required Licensure/Certifications
- Currently Registered with the New Hampshire Board of Registration for Medical Technicians.
- Certification as an Orthopaedic Technologists (OTC) by the National Board for Certification of Orthopaedic Technologists (NBCOT), or registration as a Registered Orthopedic Technologist, R.O.T. by the American Society of Orthopedic Professionals (ASOP)
