This classification receives general supervision and reports to the Facility Coordinator or Facilities Manager, who establishes the overall goals of the particular program(s) and assists with unusual or complex situations. This position is frequently required to work a flexible work schedule. Metro's Parks and Recreation Department has something for everyone through its variety of strategically placed facilities and programs. Parks offers cultural arts and fitness classes, dog parks and nature programs and 16,000 acres of open space, including 121 parks and 19 greenways. Ice hockey, sports leagues, art galleries and much more are among the offerings. An active and fun place where there is always something going on, Parks might be just the place for you. Typical Duties + Coordinates and monitors the development and delivery of recreation, athletic and fitness program services. + Determines community needs and interests. + Works with staff to plan, develop and establish goals, programs, services and classes to meet the needs of the community/participants. + Recruits instructors, coaches and/or service providers as needed. + Supervises a staff of full-time, part-time and seasonal employees. + Performs various administrative functions. + Works with Facility Coordinator or Facilities Manager to establish a budget for the program(s). + Attends meetings and workshops as needed. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university and two (2) years experience supervising recreational and/or athletic programs. *Experience may be considered in lieu of some education* Candidates with accreditations earned in a foreign institute are encouraged to apply. LICENSE REQUIRED: Valid Driver License Note: Per Metro Ordinance No. SO94-1078. All employees of the Metropolitan Government shall be residents of the State of Tennessee or become residents of the state within six (6) months of employment as a prerequisite to employment with the Metropolitan Government. Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities + Certification in one or more fitness areas from a recognized professional organization such as ACSM (American College of Sports Medicine), NSCA (National Strength and Conditioning Certification), CSCS (Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist), or ACE (American Council on Exercise) certification + Knowledge of safety rules and regulations related to a variety of fitness, athletic and recreation programs + Knowledge of community resources and agencies and the services they provide + Experience overseeing the development & implementation of a variety of fitness, athletic and recreation programs + Experience leading active recreation or fitness programs, coach organized sports & facilitate classes related to recreation, athletic or fitness We are an equal opportunity employer that values diversity at all levels.
