The University of Virginia Darden School of Business seeks a Program Coordinator/Senior Program Coordinator to join its Batten Institute for Entrepreneurship, Innovation and Technology team.
The Program Coordinator/Senior Program Coordinator advances the Darden School mission of inspiring purpose-driven, innovative leaders who will change the world. This position supports the implementation of strategic programs to further the school’s offerings across Batten’s three primary focus areas of entrepreneurial mindset, technology and thought leadership; and related topical areas such as sustainability, AI, and social innovation.
This position supports the planning and execution of Batten Institute efforts, from student-facing events and programs to faculty and alumni engagement. They are a self-starter who plays a vital role in helping the Institute create a lasting impact with its key stakeholders.
This position is actively engaged in cross-enterprise teams including members of the Mayo Center for Asset Management, the Institute for Business in Society, Career Services Center, Communication & Marketing, Office of Research Services and others to advance the Institute’s priorities and accelerate Darden’s repute as a leader in innovation among top business schools.
The Program Coordinator/Senior Program Coordinator reports directly to a Batten Institute Senior Director, who is chartered with advancing Darden’s standing and programs in entrepreneurship and technology. The Program Coordinator will work in close collaboration with every member of the Institute team, as well other units of Darden (and at times, UVA), including the Institute’s three Academic Directors.
This position is based in Charlottesville, VA.
Stakeholder Areas of Impact:
Students:
Supports Darden students across all MBA formats through a portfolio of programs which are both educational and experiential. Helps support a diverse range of programs including: Events (e.g., Darden DC Tech Connect, Southeast Entrepreneurship Through Acquisition Conference), workshops, webinars, and speaker series (e.g., Batten Presents, Tech Learning Series, Innovation Series), bootcamps and ecosystem “immersions,” student venturing (e.g., pitch competitions, Entrepreneurship Cup, iLab Incubator, Entrepreneurs in Residence), grants (e.g., Batten Innovation Grants) and internships/fellowships (e.g., Batten Venture Internship Program, Darden Venture Fellows, Batten Scholars). These are delivered in Charlottesville, at Darden’s Sands Family Grounds in Rosslyn, VA, or in other major global ecosystems. Works to cultivate relationships with student leaders and support student club initiatives (namely the Entrepreneurship and Venture Capital, Technology, and ETA clubs). Proactively partners with the other centers at Darden to support student cultivation of entrepreneurial mindset, venture development and career advancement.
Faculty :
Supports the Batten Institute’s thought leadership team as they curate and create content that drives conversations and brings a wider audience to faculty research in partnership with Communications & Marketing. Coordinates with faculty to deliver high impact workshops, events and other student and alumni programming.
Darden Enterprise :
Collaborates with stakeholders across the Darden enterprise, including but not limited to the aforementioned departments as well as Admissions, Finance/Financial Aid, Darden Foundation (most notably Alumni and Alumni Career Services), the data team, and the Office of Research Services. Develops strong partnerships with a collaborative, team-based approach. This role has responsibilities for ensuring effective and timely coordination and communication across units supporting Batten Institute efforts at Darden and increasing the impact of such activities.
Program Coordinator responsibilities include:
Organizes and coordinates the planning, implementation, and de-briefing of projects, programs, and conferences/events. As such, provides critical operational foundation for the Batten Institute—and for all of Darden’s offerings in this area.
Coordinates Batten initiatives that stretch across Darden including curricular and co-curricular offerings, research and thought leadership, and engagement with external stakeholders.
Maintains accurate records and databases related to student program participation, and other relevant data.
Supports efforts to collect feedback from students, faculty, and program partners to evaluate the effectiveness of Batten programs and identify areas for improvement, and compiles data on program outcomes, student satisfaction, and other relevant metrics.
Supports ongoing management of communication channels and outreach for prospective and current students regarding Darden as a school for innovators such as enhancing and maintaining a web presence, social media, and current student intranet and other internal collateral.
Ensures the timely dissemination of relevant information to students, faculty, and staff regarding program updates, deadlines, and requirements through internal and external channels.
Amplifies support for student clubs and events.
Facilitates opportunities for tech professionals, entrepreneurs, entrepreneurial investors, would-be MBAs, alumni, and cross-Grounds partners to contact and connect with Darden.
Partners with the Darden Advancement/Alumni team and Dean’s Office as needed.
Performs general office administrative tasks and event support, such as placing office supply orders, arranging catering, and helping with routine team management work.
In addition to the above, Senior Program Coordinator level responsibilities include:
Supports new focus areas for the Batten Institute by measuring the Institute’s impact with data and/or collecting essential data for Darden’s participation in Entrepreneurship specialty rankings.
Pro-actively identifies and develops approaches to improve internal systems and processes.
Uses information collected on program outcomes, student satisfaction, and other relevant metrics to analyze data and create reports with a continuous improvement mindset.
Owns projects on behalf of the Batten Institute team and coordinates directly with Batten and Darden colleagues to address challenges and propose strategies to maximize impact, supported by periodic check-ins with Senior Directors and Batten leadership.
Supports the Batten Institute’s thought leadership team as they curate and create content that brings a wider audience to faculty research, in partnership with Communications & Marketing.
Education and Professional Experience:
Program Coordinator – High School diploma and four years of relevant experience required. Bachelor's degree is preferred and may substitute for years of experience.
Senior Program Coordinator– High School diploma and at least four years of relevant experience required. Bachelor's degree is strongly preferred and may substitute for years of experience. Experience will include leading complex projects with minimal supervision and the ability to effectively analyze and interpret data.

Demonstrates the ability to overcome barriers and inertia with a positive and proactive attitude that builds the credibility over time to adopt a “buck stops with me” approach.
Ability to be a collaborative team player who can work and communicate effectively and professionally with students, faculty, staff, and other important Darden enterprise stakeholders.
Ability to coordinate the activities of multiple parties to achieve desired objectives.
Ability to manage strategic initiatives and ensure successful execution against agreed-on plans and objectives, at times singlehandedly.
Ability to translate thoughts and directives from several areas into a cohesive plan of action.
Ability to drive results, without direct hierarchical control and amidst occasional ambiguity.
Ability to follow and adhere to budget processes and procedures.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
Excellent office support skills with the initiative and flexibility to take on new projects and to learn new software applications as required.
Willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends, as needed.
