PROGRAM DIRECTOR

Occupational Summary:

The Program Director for Partnerships and Technical Operations is responsible for leading collaborative conversations from thought to implementation with campus and community partners in support of a digital data resource and putting efficient technical workflows in place to optimize the collective impact, productivity, and performance of the web application’s use and utility. This position regularly interacts across units within the Duke Office of Durham and Community Affairs (DCA) and the DCA senior team and engages with internal and external stakeholders.

 

This is a one-year term-limited position, with the possibility for renewal based on satisfactory performance and grant availability.

 

Areas of Responsibility:

 

Administration and Management (60%)
 

Develop, implement, and monitor day-to-day operational systems and processes to provide visibility into the goals, progress, and opportunities of key initiatives related to the partnership web application. Draw on strong relationships with academic schools, units, departments, programs, community partners, external stakeholders, and vendors to make decisions regarding operational activity and strategic goals. Co-create the community-engaged technical strategy and roadmap, effectively defining and delivering on new SOPs, process improvements, enhancements, and projects.  Collaborate with campus and community partners in the design, implementation, and enhancement of processes. Manage a responsive service desk, focusing on end-user satisfaction. Prioritize incident resolution, escalate effectively, and strategize for optimal first-call resolution. Maintain all technical relationships with DHTS, Duke OIT, other campus partners, and community partners. Provide leadership and guidance to team members, fostering a positive and productive work environment, and promoting professional growth and development Build / manage relationships with software vendors and service providers. Ensure well documented standards and procedures for the implementation of all technical solutions. Serve as the primary point of contact for the digital data tool with campus and community partners. Lead a small of technical colleagues comprising an engineer, designer, program coordinator, and students and work closely with partners to ensure that designs are aligned with campus and community partners. Prepare communication and promotional materials for the digital resource in collaboration with Sr Director of Communications to ensure all efforts align with DCA standards.

 

Programming and Evaluation (35%)

Cultivate, support and evaluate strategic collaborations across academic schools, units, and departments to support the aims of the partnership web application. Develop and facilitate user testing, workshops and communities of practice. Plan, monitor, and analyze key metrics for day-to-day operations to ensure efficient and timely completion of tasks. Evaluate, foster, and coordinate advisory groups to advance the implementation of the partnership web application. Communicate information to internal and external audiences in accessible and impactful ways, including low-tech and high-tech methods (e.g., graphics, presentations, shareable content, and interactive reports).  Contribute to the unit and overall organization’s knowledge base.

Minimum Required Qualifications:
 

Education/Training

Work requires analytical, communications and organizational skills generally acquired through completion of a bachelor's degree program.

 

Experience

Work requires planning and administering programs and directing program activities within a specific functional area, generally acquired through four years of related experience. General knowledge about basic concepts inherent to clinical and translational research is useful but not required.

Exceptional organizational and planning skills. Strong written and oral communication skills. Skills using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions to problems. Skills evaluating program performance, summarizing findings, communicating results, and forming an action plan. Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, leadership technique, and coordination of people and resources.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in IT, Computer Science, or related field Experience with project management software, databases, Excel, SharePoint, MS Teams, and website design and maintenance preferred Keen knowledge of how the web works and how a web application works, which means informed awareness of technical constraints when talking to partners and colleagues  Ability to define the functionality of what is being developed for web applications Experience using artifacts like context diagrams, use cases, process maps and user journey maps Experience breaking down a set of wireframes into actionable tasks for front-end and back-end developers Proficiency in project management software (e.g., Jira) and collaboration tools (e.g., Confluence). Able to create Stories, Epics, Tasks and subtasks Experience in process mapping, contract management, program development, root cause analysis, and requirements management is preferred
