Job Summary
The Program Director for the Advanced Practice Provider (APP) Critical Care Fellowship Program will be primarily responsible for the oversight, leadership, and daily operations of the Fellowship Program including curriculum development, coordinator and preceptor training, site management, interprofessional didactic and clinical learning experiences, as well as preparation, maintenance, review, and accreditation submission. This is a full-time APP position with 0.5 FTE designation to the Institute of Academic Medicine, and 0.5 FTE designation to acute care clinical practice.
A Fellowship program is a planned, comprehensive, coordinated program in which an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) or Physician Assistant/Associate (PA) obtains the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to deliver safe, competent, and quality care in a transition-to-practice environment. The specialty areas of practice for the purposes of this Fellowship will be the critical care areas of CAMC Health Systems, Inc. covering Adult Intensive Care Units (open heart recovery, surgical intensive care, medical intensive care, cardiopulmonary intensive care, neuroscience intensive care, and surgical-trauma intensive care) in addition to the Emergency Departments (General, Memorial, Women & Children’s, and Teays Valley).
The Program Director will report to the Associate Chief Academic Officer for Health Sciences and Professional Education and the CAMC Institute of Academic Medicine (IAM). The PD will collaborate with all key stakeholders in critical care specialties across CAMC Health Systems, Inc. including (but not limited to) faculty physicians and providers with expertise in trauma, emergency medicine, medical, surgical, and neurological intensive care, open heart recovery and cardiovascular services. The PD will compose, chair, and coordinate the activities of the curriculum committee in planning the content and delivery of the essential components of the program, as well as lead discussions with the APP CC Fellowship Competency Committee for formative and summative learner evaluations.
Responsibilities
· Program Leadership- oversight, development, design, implementation, and evaluation of the specialty coordinators, preceptors, learners, and other key stakeholders.
· Development and Design-establishing an infrastructure focusing on competency requirements, curriculum development and educational design for successful program progression and completion.
· Program Goals and Outcome Measures- identifies and develops program goals and outcomes that measure the overall impact of the program.
· Organizational Enculturation- assimilate learners into the cultural practices and values of the organization and learners’ profession.
· Practice-Based Learning- provide learning opportunities which take place in a specialized environment under the guidance of preceptors, mentors, and other experienced healthcare professionals designed to facilitate the competence of the learner in practice and performance.
Core Duties
· Carry out a shared and integrated vision of health sciences and professional education; establishes annual and strategic goals for the APP CC Fellowship Program in alignment with the mission and goals of the IAM and CAMC.
· Chairs the APP CC Fellowship Program curriculum committee in collaboration with key stakeholders in program content development and delivery.
· Structures Specialty Coordinators’ and Preceptors’ orientation to APP CC Fellowship and communicates teaching and evaluation structure of the program.
· Leads and coordinates activities and functions of the APP CC Fellowship Clinical Competency Committee.
· Monitors Advanced Practice Professionals (APP) practice requirements at the state and national levels and implements best evidence-based academic teaching and learning methods.
· Collaborates with Director of Simulation and simulation team to design and deliver experiential learning opportunities to meet the core competencies of transition-to-practice as recognized by the ANCC/PTAP/APPFA accreditation bodies.
· Anticipate budgetary needs and exercise fiscally sound decision-making to support the educational structure in collaboration with the ACAO of Health Sciences and Professional Education.
· Emulate CAMC Health System, Inc.’s Core Values of Quality, Service with Compassion, Respect, Integrity, Stewardship, and Safety while representing the IAM during all interprofessional interactions promoting program growth.
· Develop, foster, and nurture necessary partnerships with service lines, department managers, faculty, and providers in critical care areas to communicate purpose of transition-to-practice program, and elicit necessary feedback for outcomes measurement and optimal learner engagement.
· Develop competencies for formative and summative evaluations of learners in the transition-to-practice environment in collaboration with key stakeholders.
· Ensure a standardized educational design across all sites and specialties without program deviation or variability.
· Submit annual reports and any additional documentation requested by the ANCC PTAP/APPFA team and comply with APPFA policies and procedures in accordance with initial program accreditation and maintenance.
· Maintain continuous communication with the APP CC Fellowship team, specialty coordinators, preceptors, and learners in anticipation of successful program progression, and revise education plans as needed to meet individual learning needs.
· Maintain all data related to program leadership, goals, outcome measures, organizational enculturation, practice-based learning, and provider performance metrics, and report quarterly to IAM and CAMC.
