Job Description
The Department of Agricultural Economics with the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service invites applications from exceptional candidates to fill the position of Program Director to manage the department technical assistance, education, and outreach efforts serving the Rio Grande Colonias USDA Food Business Center. The position is full-time, 12-month, 100% Extension appointment supported with USDA grant funding.
The Agricultural Economics Unit within the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service will oversee the technical assistance efforts for the Rio Grande Colonias USDA Regional Food Business Center (https://rgcolonias.org/) (RGC-RFBC). The RGC-RFBC is a USDA funded initiative to provide coordination, technical assistance, and financial capacity to small and mid-sized food and farm businesses. The primary role of the Program Director will be to lead, plan, organize, direct, and manage day-to-day activities for the agricultural economics technical assistance team for the RGC-RFBC. In addition, the Program Director will coordinate efforts with other AgriLife faculty and other collaborators in the RGC-RFBC.
Responsibilities:
-Administration of Technical Assistance activities for the RGC-RFBC, including planning, organizing, staffing, leading, and monitoring program activities.
-Developing program strategic plans, goals, objectives, policies, and procedures in conjunction with the Center leadership and partners.
-Developing and maintaining working procedures and communications) with internal and external partners.
-Developing and conducting programs including technical assistance training, conferences, seminars, and workshops.
-Identify and source external Technical Assistance providers
-Overseeing the achievement of program objectives.
-Identifying and securing program funding and expansion resources.
-Evaluating program procedures and performance reports.
-Directing and supervising program staff.
-Analyzing program statistics for reporting, tracking progress, and making adjustments to programs.
-Maintaining program activity records, develop and monitor budgets, and providing progress reports.
-Developing grant programs, grant review processes, and grant management systems.
-Participation and contribution in RGC-RFBC working groups.
-Other duties and special projects as assigned.
Given the geographic span of the RGC-RFBC and its target audiences, there is an expectation of travel and conducting programs throughout Texas and New Mexico with a focus on the Colonias communities of the U.S./Mexico border region along Texas and New Mexico. Educational program delivery will include Extension and other peer-reviewed publications, workshops, conferences, computer and web-based software, online courses, electronic and mass media, as well as individual technical assistance.
Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in related field and ten (10) years of related experience (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
Preferred Education and Experience:
Advanced degree in relevant field.
Experience working with a varied network of organizations, administration of publicly funded programs, public education
Required knowledge, skills and abilities:
Effective organizational and verbal/written communication skills.
Ability to multi task and work cooperatively with others.
